  • Oh - does anyone know how true this is? Apparently I can call internationally for free from BT by dialling 08453817101. Is it true it is inclusive in my call plan - coz when i rang BT they said i can call 0845 number for free from my plan but when i read the T&C they said it might not. Who should i believe - am waiting for the bill now. I also try calling Pakistan from the number but it doesn't work and it work when i call to India???

0845 and 0870 calls are inclusive 'in plan' for those on BT's Unlimited xxxx call plans.

However, 0845/0870 numbers which are used as gateways (i.e. what you suggest) are specifically excluded.

You may not be charged immediately but, on balance, I'd think you ought to plan on BT charging you eventually.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Hi Guys!

I've been with 18185 for quite a while now and the calls are dead cheap. I call Poland very often. A strange thing is that calling from my mobile is cheaper than calling from a BT line! I pay 0.5p per min via mobile but 1p via a BT line! When you call via your cell they provide you with an 0208 number so if you have plenty of free calls in your contract with the mobile provider the minutes are taken off your monthly allowance!

I'm not sure about charges to other countries but it's worth having a look

You haven't quite thought that one through, have you?

If you use 181815's other gateway number (0808 1 703 703) from your BT landline, you'll pay ½p/minute to call Poland.

I visited their website and they charge 9p/min to Pakistan and 4p/min to India - that's over 50% more expensive than cheapcallsto.co.uk !!!

Anyway, just view my statement online on BT - they didn't charge me for the free calls to India on 08453817101...but it is only daytime I can call...dunno why they have to restrict it!

I am also transferring my AOL broadband to O2 today - hopefully everything will goes well!! I know it is completely random but just felt like saying it...coz I have been paying too much for my home broadband, I hate O2 though coz they are not coming down on price with the iphone, but oh well, they give me 3 mths discount on my broadband so I can't complaint!!:rotfl:

Hi.. I have been using Dialwise and similar access numbers to connect to landlines in Spain, and always had good service. Charges 0.5 p/min.
I am trying to connect to a number in Taiwan, using the recommended numbers and cannot get the system to work at all. The international number for Taiwan is 00886. This seems to make the total numbers input exceed the length allowed by the system, as the dialling is always interrupted before before the final number.
I can dial the same number direct, without any problems.
Can anyone offer a solution please ?

Dunno why that happen. Have a look at the international callchecker

There are many access numbers just try any one of them till it works..

I am trying to use currently cheapest provider - Planet Talk Instant (which is wrongly listed as Primus Saver) to call to Azerbaijan Mobiles.

I used to have problems with them since summer 2009 and sent them email but no one came back. Then I sent another email in couple of month saying this is a horrible service because it is charging for call but not connecting it with long beep and customer service is not answering to emails.
After long searches I found their customer service phone number (0800 0363839) and called them on 11-th of December. An engineer confirmed an issue with calls to Azerbaijan Mobile and promised to report the fault.
Besides 10 days passed the issue has not been resolved and they are still ripping off us on unsuccessful call attempts. Does anyone know how to report this to OfComs?

It's difficult to find the rate, but I googled 'talktalk calls to japan' and found this. Does anyone know it it is genuine? I cannot post the link, but it is with a company called tajphone.

My son is home for Christmas and wants to phone a friend in Japan.

  • Hello,

Just want to let people know - Don't use Teletop!

From the International and UK CallChecker, Teletop was the cheapest to call Hong Kong. To be fair the price per minute was the cheapest to many other countries, however, they are charging 5p connection fee per call (No matter its a successful call or not).

I have tried the Teletop call service for the past 2 months. I found out I need to connect at least 3 times to make a successful call. Quite often it would take up to 7 or 8 times connections for a successful call, so it wasn't cheap eventually and it was very frustrating . It would be so much cheaper to use the international calling card I used to use. At least it would be connected for the first time and it's just 0.5 pence per minute.
