There's one against a house in Dingwall & it looks as old as the Victorian house judging by the width of its 'trunk?' They do look Art Nouveau, organic. Our neighbours had a dwarf one that sadly also died a couple of Winter's back.
It's closing in here. Glad we fed the sheeps early. Should be refelting Mr & Mrs Teddy's house - the buffs, but feeling too slothful.0 -
:j I saw the sun today! Admittedly it was briefly & between extreme gloom mixed with hail, rain & something looking suspiciously like sleet but there was sun
Laundry went out the window (not literally, unfortunately) & will have to wait patiently in it's basket until later in the week when I'll get round to it.
Our wisteria was tamed last winter so that's one thing we don't have to do this time around. In fact, we're up-to-date with pruning & tidying the various wall-climbers. One of the jasmines occasionally decides to break ranks & pull away from the wall in the gales but, hopefully, we've got that sorted ...... famous last words :rotfl:
Don't your tips have a recycling section where you put (or the workers there rescue) decent stuff which can be re-used?0 -
Yes - now there is recycling centres everywhere I think - you can't dive in the tip willy nilly like the good ole days!
Our nearest is nearly 40miles away. we do have a bottle bank though 4 miles down the road - I often try & get bottles out of there when I need to bottle my home brew!0 -

In a previous life I lived in Oxford for a year & loved to walk along the canal & that was the very first time I saw Wisteria - I had to ask someone what it was that was growing up the houses! Beautiful plant.
Well for some weird reason Hamish wanted, did in fact roost so I've been half climbing a slippery, wet, bendy Birch tree in a blizzard to get the buzzard in. Worst evening he's probably seen in his young life & he wants to roost - see Scots Greys they're heid cases so they are.0 -
Happy new year to you all! I know I haven't been on for ages ... been lurking tho lol. Well unlike Choille we have no snow although it is rather cold. Am full of plans for the garden this year as the allotment society thing has been going for 2 years now and we are no closer to gettin land or anything so it will probably be next year if we are to get an allotment at all! Although there was a chap who phoned OH up to say he has a rather large plot of land at the back of his house that he would be willing to rent as an allotment to folk that were trustworthy ... may just get OH to go see him and see if we can't just rent the plot ourselves! It is just at the end of our road and we wouldn't need to worry about it being too far away for me to take the kids on foot ... just need to get a wheelbarrow and possibly another shed.
But first things are first ... house getting gutted this week (well today and tomorrow am back at work on wednesday) and hopefully will have some goodies for selling ... may have to list them on facebook as it is much easier than ebaying them!
Second on the list is debt busting ... if things go the way we have planned we will be down to one debt by the end of the year! Fingers crossed of course ... you never know what is going to happen.
I would dearly love to knock in the old fireplace in this house and put in a wood burning stove ... could do with a proper focal point that is not the telly! But certainly don't have £5G knocking around so will have to save up for that!
And finally on the list is the garden of doom! We have so much carp in there it all has to go by the end of the month! OH started decking when we moved in 3 years ago and the frame is just a receptacle for rubbish so it is going whether he likes it or not ... he can then put some privacy fencing up and build some raised beds ... there is enough timber in the big shed to build a house! He goes to the recycling centre in inverness to drop stuff off and comes back with more timber!
And my last resolution is to write regularly on my blog! I have been seriously neglecting it!
Off to do the kitchen. Later xxxLBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:
Current debt levels: OD £3860, Loan 1 £6091, Loan 2 £5052, Parents £260, Total £16133  As at 01 May 2012 - 51.69% paid off :j
Aiming for a No Spend Christmas 2012!0 -
Bonsibabe - missed you - hope you're all well. Do you know the Green House in Dingwall?
How do you sell stuff on facebook?
Best wishes with the allotment - that would be great if it's to hand.
Not much snow on the ground as it isn't lying here but is on the tops, but OH just taken the car up to the road as it's looking a bit ominous for overnight.0 -
evening folks....... and new/old comers !:)
what an interesting lot of chat... cant remember whos said whatbut........
we had a huge wisteria on a house i used to live at. it was planted in 1930. trunk like a tree...spectacular !!
is there a hardier type you could plant choille ??
re using a plot belonging to a private person..beware.... a friend did that and it transformed a bland "end of garden" and after 2 years owners put up for sale and estate agent blurb crowed on about the spectacular garden !! my friend promptly went in and removed all the raised beds, plants etc and the owner said she couldnt do that !! well she bl**dy well did with mine and others help !! looked like it did before her hard work after......:D thats not to say everyone would be like that but check how secure it would be as its devastating to put in all that hard work for nothing as some things take 2 years + to get established !:)
tips.....LIR...i cant believe your tip doesnt sell.. here the managers pay wages from the sales... its all contracted. we have 2 close-ish. one is about 4 miles away ,tends to sell smaller items, not much furniture.[grumpy old git runs that] the other 8 miles away sells furniture, garden stuff, china etc.. also more antiquey/vintage stuff[they are nicer there too]
rhiwfield...i just cant part with things, thats the trouble...if it draws me to it it then super glues itself to me..:o :rotfl::rotfl:
ive been painting on and off today..inbetween spies...sorry visitors calling in..
CTC... when my son was 12 he got himself his first part time job. ive always supported him supporting his spending needs. i always said if he was saving for a big thing i would match what he saved. ive had times when i was flush and visa versa but he has never complained if he had 2nd hand pressies etc. SO iv never charged him board/keep. he has paid towards fuel bills etc without asking so it has leveled out. he went on to get a job that im extremely proud of so feel its paid off. friends say im too soft but hes had it tough with me as a mother...:D......:rotfl:0 -
DONT BELIEVE IT......thought i could hear thunder but its a huge almighty fireworks diplay over the field... i usually get a warning because of the animals  at least lets me baton down the hatches !!!

Some people are just thoughtless & totally ignorant when it comes to animals
It's not particularly a trait of the rich, though......... well, nouveau riche, maybe (OK call a spade a spade - chav)
I hope you've got all the animals sorted & all are OK, alfie.
What's happening about those classic cars you were helping the old guy sort out?0
