I enjoy following this lovely friendly thread just for entertainment. A very happy new year to you all and thanks for sharing your dreams and dramas!
Not a major drama, but having decided to study the local river for ...ahem....'personal research purposes,' I set off with New Year vigour on a walk to ameliorate the effects of too much plum duff. No one else was up for this.
He of upstairs omnipresence must have been aware of my mission, however, for having reached the furthest point of this particular trudge, the heavens opened as something like a mini-hurricane came whistling up the valley, turning quite a nice afternoon into a maelstrom in a matter of seconds.
I decided there was nowhere to hide, so I just trudged onwards and eventually reached the shelter of the pine wood, whereupon the wind dropped and the deluge turned into a gentle, misty drizzle again. By then it really didn't matter; I was drenched. I know it looked bad, because when I reached home, the cat, sheltering under the shed canopy, fled.:rotfl:
So, God 1, Beelzebub 0, I'm afraid. Still, there will be other days and another 3 miles or so of river to chart. Today's bit was rubbish. :mad:0 -

davesnave............ :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: sorry..:o
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE
it has P'd down all day here !! havnt done anything except feed animogs.. my lawn has dissapeared under water, it just doesnt have any where to go ! im surrounded by various water ditches, bogs ,ponds etc running through all the woods here, they are full and my garden joins a ditch/pond and that usually takes away my garden water....:(
my chooks etc ran out of the greenhouse like they normally do this morning and then all stopped dead, looked around and thought "nah" and headed back in...:rotfl:only the ducks and goose goggins have enjoyed today !! albeit they did put themselves to bed early...:D
does anyone feel any difference in yesterday/today [2011/2012] ?? apart from we are but a mere few days before post returns to near normality and delivers us our first "BILLS" for 2012...
sorry if ive missed leaving a relevant [or in my case irrelevant!:D] comment from posts from some of U's but im a bit wacked on painkillers.... im not bad just bit stiff0 -
Hi Joyful - Happy New Year to you.
Today was wet - well what did you expect? Slushy drizzly day. Cleaned out the hen houses & cowered indoors in the main. Sheep are up to their thighs in mud as are we.
Haven't seen Thrushy (who ran with the hens) for a few days - since the bad gales - well the gales a few days back. Hope he/she is okay. Also AWOL is a male Blackbird who hung around too.
I keep a few feeders on a young willow tree outside the caravan, swarming with song birds it is usually & also hang up fat off the meat roasts - we've had a few recently so it's looking a bit sacrificial out there, a bit weird cultish I like to imagine - It'll scare the Jehova Witnesses............0 -
Hiya choille..... hope you realise you are personally responsible for my good self "getting one over" on my BF [just!] with regards the date of the shortest day....;) :rotfl::rotfl:
simple thing but it amused me no end...:D needless to say will prob hav to wait another year to do it again !!:o
i do worry about you when i see OUR weather forecast and a glance up the map just reveals a white mass with lots of arrows aimed at your area !
that includes all of U's north of the border..:(
iv just painted one full wall in my hall ,will see if imor  in the morning light !!
i intend to "lose" 2 old fire doors and a tv and some other bits at the tip tomorow. i found out why it was shut friday...an old gent became ill at the wheel of his automatic car when he drove into the tip,he kept going, rammed a heavy duty metal pailing fence and the car started to CLIMB IT ! someone managed to get the door open and get the keys out but car fell back and nearly squished the hero !! so police ,ambulance etc on scene.
anyway i am trying to work out what to do with chooks in greenhouse ?? do i just get another greenhouse or do i sort another shed for them ? not sure which is easiest to aquire !!;)
i want to do a lot of seeds this year and get my safe veggy plot sorted...
i never seem to have enough time to start and finish all i want to do AND it doesnt help with family and friends watching me like a hawk ! if i hear "just rest, take it easy" one more time........ so i sneak and do things [within my at the mo limits] in between spies calling/arriving !!:rotfl::rotfl:

Well wind seems to be a common weather feature here now - the other week was the worst we've had, but surprisingly no damage - even though a well weighted down piece of ply wood took off & cleared the car coming to land against the shed.
Goodness Alfie I do miss a good ole dive into skips. There all manned here - it all seems rather clinical. I remember the days when stuff was just dumped in a heap & you could scramble over the stinking mess for hours........feeling all wistful & nostalgic.
Take care Alfie but not overly as that would be too boring a day.0 -

Alfie, sometimes you have to slow down so that you can speed-up later, but the fact is there will never be enough time for everything a creative person will think about doing. The main thing is to finish the bits that get started.
I'm slightly worried about your greenhouse chooks. Do you have a way to heat the greenhouse if it should turn really cold, like it did last winter? Glass isn't warm like wood, or as forgiving in damp conditions. Just a thought.0 -

apparently i am embarrasing re skips...:D BF and friends disown me if im with them when i spot one...:rotfl:i think nothing of clambering up into one wherever it is !!:D
if i see one im drawn like a magnet and HAVE to look in it. my neck swivels like an owl if i drive past one..:D
it has been known for me to double back, stop and look in one. if its of interest i will knock a door and ask for bits... my best aquisitions were 2 pairs of lined lovel curtains from a local hotel refurb AND an amazing huge classical axminster rug [12x12] which i now have in my bedroom [ got it thinking it would have damage when i unrolled it,it was destined for weed supressing...] there was another smaller one but didnt take it as i didnt think theyd be that good...shot back to skip when i saw quality but skip had gone0 -
