lol, I do NOT miss hunting for things to look at, but I do miss the excitment of the different opportunities I could see at different places, and the getting about the country a bit.
new year, new day, same old same old.....put up some fencing and moved the horses onto a patch of land we don't graze usually but want to tidy up. started the job of weeding the long border and cursed that we hyaven't sorted out the soft fruit solution yet. I really need to post some pictures.....because the soft fruit is still bang in the middle of what could be one decent border otherwise! I've planted somethings to close together already, and have some gaps which the springs mailorder catlogues are tempting me with already.
What does pone do with straggly die back bits on a lupin tree please? Anyone know?
picked three peppers, which despite the two frosts are miraculously ok, saw chamomile out in the field, and last years black eyed susan is floriferous as she was in summer. the Japonicas are budding well, but one has yellow leaves......the roses have a bit of black spot because none have dropped leaves at all..0 -
Just popping in to say a very Happy New Year to you all. I had three pages to read first though! The thread moves really quickly some days
This year will be much of the same - allotment, hens and a productive garden. Mind you, the garden looks like a building site at the moment as DH started terracing it in the summer and that's how it remains...... I've renamed him Arfur as everything he starts ends up as half a job. I'm still awaiting the drawers for the wonderful kitchen table he built me 15 year agoEvery Christmas I ask for a pair of drawers, and every Christmas I get a pair of drawers, but with an M&S label inside them :rotfl:
My plan this year is to be 75% self sufficient in veg and 50% in fruit (I don't think I can grow bananas!!) and as our fruit trees and bushes grow we can increase that percentage. We already are cost neutral with the hens but I can't see this being the year DH gets his bees.
So, at the mini farm based in "a grotty little council house" the Stitching Witch is not only Making Magic with Fabric, but also is beginning to see her daydream become reality, although I do still hanker after a cottage in 10 acres..........Making magic with fabricLight travels faster than sound. Due to lack of funds this year, the five adults in the family did a (not quite so secret) Secret Santa instead of buying presents all round. I've just got back from DD's house where we had a massive dinner and shared out the present. I got a subscription to my favourite H*me F*rmer magasine (as I'd had to cancel the previous subscription at the end of last year) and it came with the Strawbridge's self sufficiency book. Woohoo!!!Making magic with fabricLight travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.0
