Just had an interesting message left on the phone from a house we viewed last year. We've been in 'contact' as they want to move but its got to be the right property as they weren't in a hurry. Now it seems they could be moving later in 2012 and were 'touching base'. It's a gorgeous house with I think 5 acres-ish. Trouble is we've put a lot of dosh into the business. Still worth a phone call to see how the land lies.

 Good luck if you go for it.
PS - No, it definitely wasn't my place. I'd have remembered making the phone call ...... I think, wouldn't I, where am I, why am I here?
Sorry, bored & at that stage where one goes into second infancy0 -
Depends if you both want a fence, of course. The alternative is a hedge, which will need maintenance.
Palisade fencing is easy if it's a level site. Provided someone can put up vertical posts, it's possible to buy pre-mortised ones and nailing onto the rails doesn't take long. Everything like cost and time to do depends on what length the run is really.
What are your home labourers like?
I am such a muppet :rotfl:here is me stressing about the cost of a fence when we could just put in a hedge! Three quarters of the boundary between their garden and ours is hedge so we could just continue that! The hedge we have propagates beautifully and grows rapidly.
We are on great terms with them and I think I will mention that as a possibility to them the next time I see them. Failing that I could (if they were agreeable) get my OH and his dad to put up the actual fence. They are quite handy and the current fence is really just a long stretch of trellis so there would be no need to dig out existing supports etc.
Anyway just before I head off out to celebrate the end of 2011 I would just like to get a bit soppy
Even though I only have a garden I love coming onto this thread and hearing all your trials and successes. You always make me feel so welcome (if confused about eating thank you buttons???) and I feel very at home here. I hope you all have a lovely evening and I wish you all health, wealth and happiness for the coming year
PS: Remember to tell me when I can start planting :rotfl:

We've done all the new pears and the two apples that are here to stay. Our friends dropped out (sick pet) so dh suggested an ancient rite of fertility after we'd had a little dance and sing outside, but....I'm not sure where picnic blanket with the waterproof underside is and the water will take hours to heat up for a bath after so I suggested we come inside for a piece of cheese instead.

yes, happy new year all. May your courgettes be plentiful but not grow into marrows overnight, my your lettuces only run to seed when you want to collect the seed, may we have neither drought nor flood but rather sun filled days, and refreshing overnight showers, and may builders estimagtes be just a little lower than we have all budgeted for.0 -
Happy New Year Daydreamers!!

Feeling under pressure........ its not been made yet probably tonight if we can find his number as the daftie didn't leave it. Or it might have to wait until we go over to the workshop (business) as OH has done somw work for him and it'll be in the job book. In my heart of hearts I think it'll be out of our price range. Its a gorgeous house, still within the school catchment area for the chaps. Sigh
