We used to live really near a council run skip site & I was allus diving into the skips. I rescued lots & lots from land fill - including a Victorian dresser that I got nearly £300 for at an auction, all the wood we could burn, a child's gold ring from 1750 - which I still have & an oak table that was covered with Formica that I did up & still have - perfect huge rag rug that's in the shed somewhere.
Once went & it was stacks of old mannequins that must have been out of an old shop. Some joker had posed them as if it was a murder scene - really should have gone & got a camera it was hilarious. I rescused one & had it in my then garden. Got a complaint from the golf club that was about quarter of a mile away saying it could be seen from the greens!
Kept the hands & have them appearing out of the ground in the shrubbery as if there's been a corpse buried. I really must get councelling someday when I'm rich!0 -
Are they roosting up or on the ground, alfie?0

From your description I would think they should be OK unless it goes well below freezing.
We lost a load of hens once when a whirlwind picked up one the henhouses in the night, they went to roost in the open greenhouse & a fox cornered them in there. We went down to let them out in the morning, found the henhouse upside down in the next field & carnage in & around the greenhouse0 -

that reminds me of the either 87 or 89 storms here when i lost a "shed".... in my then horses field amongst various sheds i had a big alluminium workmens bender shed [my then BIL was a scaffolder with a big Co. and he "aquired" it for me

:rotfl: Sounds very similar. It's amazing how far things can get blown.
Right, I'm off to bed. Tomorrow looks like another grim day - I won't even comment on Tuesday's forecast. So, the highlight of my tomorrow looks set to be several loads of washing. Oh joy :rotfl:
Darn it. So dopey I didn't even say goodnight. Night night all.0 -

Alf, but if you sell some you make space to buy more and free up some cash. We love the crimbo feeling when we rummage around the boxes of stuff we buy. Its that sense of discovering something that is the same as tip rummaging. Went to take some broken glass to our centre and there were 5 childrens bikes that someone had thrown away. Madness.
Listed 20+ items last night, but spent most of the time researching catalogue items to work out bid/saleprices.
Its batten down the hatches tonight, fire lit and candles burning. Might just put another lashing on the coop as well, and tie down the GH vents. The saving grace of this weather is that our fuel use is way down but I'm sure we'll get a cold spell or two before long
