Its truly horrible that stench

Davesnave, very impressed. Dual purpose to house the swimming pool as well as the plants ;)

CTC, will be fascinated to hear how the spaces work at Llandeilo and Hay. When I looked locally I couldnt help but feel all the money went to the landlord :(

The teapot saga part 2: curators at two museums link it to 1930s but none have seen anything quite like it.

In the meantime sold our lego collection yesterday and a load of old LPs. Bad news is an art deco mirror we sold was smashed by the courier despite being well packaged, couldnt insure so lose sale fee and courier fee  Got another to sell but its collection only.

Not much greenfingered stuff happening, still cant bend over so garden suffering. Chooks are enjoying lots of lettuce though and toms are producing well, and autumn raspberries just starting to crop.

davesnave... wow ,that looks great ! doesnt look like that will go anywhere in a strong wind !! presuming it will be cemented/gravelled in ? well done you.

It's already got 3 tonnes of concrete + stones/earth on top of the base plates, and the holes aren't fully filled-in yet. I always over-engineer. :o
We spent ages trying to figure out how to get the first hoop made completely flat. (it's in 4 bits) None of our surfaces, even the 'inside bit of the tunnel, is perfectly flat. Then, our friend suggested we build it vertically against the end of the barn. Having three of us there, we could do this, and once the locking screws were in, we used it on the ground, held with concrete blocks, as a support/jig for all the others. :)
I might be a bit simple, but if they could have pre-drilled the locking screw holes in the factory on their perfectly flat surface, I'd have paid for that as an optional extra and saved hours of puzzling & tedium.
I would have done more, but I'm having trouble reaching the apex now it's up!

No swimming pool, but I fancy a pond inside. My old mate John Phillips from Devizes used to have a pond full of Roach or Rudd under the staging in his long glasshouse.

Pity about the mirror. I can rarely order pots without some at either end being broken by idiot couriers.

The thing about your garden is that it's been tamed, so hopefully it won't take long to knock it back into shape once you a fully fit. Let's hope that isn't long though. :)

    Belated Happy Birthday, Rummer.:bdaycake:
Hope that while you were enjoying your dinner outside, the midges weren't enjoying theirs!

On a separate subject, we sent the breeders a link to the Poultry Pages, where I'd written a bit about our experiences with the Aus tralorps (without naming the breeders.) Within hours, Aunty Betty, or whoever she is, (a moderator) had removed the entire thread because of the 'legal implications.':(

We don't know how lucky we are having this site!
The breeders are now trying the 'guilt trip' approach, but I still think we will go to Small Claims. Their argument is that they've lost so much money in extra Frontline treatment, closure of the pens etc that they can't reimburse us as well, especially as it's our fault. (It's our fault because their hens are OK.) I'm sure they genuinely believe it was our bad husbandry that created the problem.

I think the reading the Poultry Pages thread shook them though. Whatever we do now, they have learned what they really didn't want to know!

    HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY RUMMER:beer:

Davesnave...looking good.....how long do you think it will be before it will be up and running with plants in it?

Rhiwfield.....Alot of the stallholders that we spoke too in hay were moaning things have gone quiet, BUT.... some of their pricing was OTT IMO. We will give Hay a go until christmas, I like Llandeilo, and for the amount of space we have it does ok....I have also learned alot from it too..We were thinking about buying an old church or something to do an Antique centre and rent spaces out, but its all about location with tourists etc

Looks as though its going to be another lovely day here.... not the type of weather to do our job in......especially when i allways wear my fluffy slippers in work:eek::rotfl:

davesnave.... what puzzles me with thier argument re more expense for frontline etc is that the TREATMENTS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN PLACE IN THE FIRST PLACE ....DUUUURRRRR ! how can they say so brazenly that its an EXTRA?? its not...its the ongoing treatment for health and welfare of ANY critter wether a pet, product or whatever. some people just want to get money but with minimum outlay re animals. as they say a BAD word spreads faster than a GOOD one .....a good reputation sells.

im off my soap box now....till next time :D

Exactly. Or, if low chem-ing then suitable other means and vigilance. Same reason I didn't feel bad about or ''sheep incident'' earlier in the year.....when [people complain that you expec tthem to check sheep twice a day, ensure they are adaquately fenced and make sure they always have water you really know that other things are likely to be being skimped on aswell.

I'd try and keep contact to a minimum now and press on to small claims. I think sometimes the discussion goes beyond attempts to resolution and just starts to be ammunition for resentment.

I think we should all get a column in small holding or some such to rant about this sort of thing. ;) IN FACT, davesnave...I think tomterm might have said he had something published in one of those mags....he might be keen to write about your experience for a wider audience.

I think my toms have blight. :( All we have to eat is going to be the courgettes. You can but laugh!

Been busy gardening so no computer time recently! Also we had yet another IKEA trip to get another guest bed that was on special till end of July... Only there about 3 hours this time! ;)

Planted what I hope will eventually be a lavender hedge by the drive today - so far it's 15 minuscule plants that I should have potted on weeks ago, but I figured might as well just shove them in the ground. Have spent 3 days weeding the bed I planted in! Where's the hobbling round knackered smiley? :o

We've harvested all the garlic, some got forked - OH is over-enthusiastic with the big garden fork - wish he'd just loosened the soil and pulled them out. Which is what I did when I finished off the harvesting. It's still drying off outside, but may bring it in this evening as I think we've got rain forecast. I'm pretty pleased with the garlic, just wish we could grow as much next year, but don't think we'll have the space unless we dig up the lawn! :rotfl:

Planted out chard and quinoia, hope to get the amaranth and black kale in tomorrow. It's going to be a fiddly job getting the enviromesh up over the kale I suspect. Have some big hoops, but the clips that came with them are very tight and too stiff for me to ease them on. Thank goodness OH is off work tomorrow so he can do all the faffing around!

It's very strange to be here at the house after so long a wait. Must get back home soon as need to do some washing - we still haven't organised a washing machine here, and prob won't for a while as have just ordered new Motability car (or did I mention that already?) so will have a fairly hefty up front payment to make prob in October. Once that's out of the way I'll have a better idea of how much cash I have to play with - we need a fridge freezer here too.
