what a great site, beautiful pictures, and brings DH and I back to the question.......why are we still living in London?
Yes, I thought it was a lovely, gentle site. No idea how I came by it now, but I pop back from time to time.
In other news, DW and I put the first hoop of the polytunnel together today...... and then hastily took it down again! It was all wonky. We knew we should really put screws into the joints to lock them, but we just wanted to check if we could reach the top joint from our largest step ladder. We could, but only just.
Now we have to build all the hoops and screw them together, which would be fine if we had a perfectly level surface about 25' x 12' to lay them on. If they aren't level when the screws go in, they'll turn out wonky. As we don't have that surface, I'm considering various work-arounds.
Knew it wasn't going to be like Meccano!
We had cloud/drizzle/light rain all day today, but elsewhere seemed OK. Not used to that happening!0 -

Spent yesterday looking out at sea all day car booting and the rain held off, for a change. Surreal at both sites, Sully is just so big that buyers find it hard to see all the stalls and drift by, eyes glazed with bric a brac overload. Porthkerry is much smaller, friendlier, but selling stops every ten minutes or so as a plane thunders in to land!0 -
Oops, sorry to0 any offended widows!
I'm feeling under stimulated by the wood reno today and I'm wondering if I might squeeze in taking out one of the old girls on longreins for a walk. Maybe show of some fancy stuff at the road side. Our little road hasn't had its normal morning traffic at anything like the normal rate so the school holidays have started!0 -
My family home had Edwardian wooden double doors with stain glass windows (felt very posh opening the front doors) they were lovely.
One day we stripped all the paint off to get to the original mouldings and like you, my parents thought they looked lovely so my dad oiled them.
I think it was linseed oil, but 30 years and 2 owners later they still have have them and they look great.
Just a thought
Thing is, I don't want it smartly oiled but rather mat, worn and decripid.:) Eccentric chic. it'd be weather ravaged by spring and matchwood by summer. Paint it has to be, but....in a few weeks. TBH, might take be a few weeks to finish stripping the frame and rest of the door.0 -
Woohooo I've got the roofers coming tomorrow to make a start on the half of my house that's got A frames and sarking on it, just got to get the steels completed to get the otherhalfs roof on now lol0

I am furious. For the last week we've had the council's mean in the garden repointing a wall the council own. The weekend beofre they came I spent time weeding the nursey bed I have infront of it...its the only really good south facing garden stretch and near the house for watering, but as its not yet ''garden'' its where stuff that needs sun has been planted, and I had let weeds go berserk in between sporadic weedings.
But, today they've finished, and I went over to check and my rhubarb (also there, but weeny plants/divisions has gone and so has the poor ailing caci tree. Though it looked bad it still had green when scratched. And it was obviously not a weed. The other stuff that's trashed (and there is a lot of damage) is all replacable but the caci is harder to replace and such hard work and the rhubarb I missed eating so much this year and now it will be another rhubarb less spring.
I could spit and cry and stamp. All that damage, a day spent weeding to make it clear what was plant and to be respected.0 -
Davesnave, we allread have a spot in an antique place in Llandeilo, been there since last september...
so as we had someone from hay on wye 'snooping' round and prentending to want to buy for himself, we eventually got him to say exactly what he was doing, he wanted to buy to re-sell on to the dealers in hay on wye. so this is why we went there yesturday to have a look around, and have booked a space in one of the antique centres, cut out the middle man;):D
LIR what a poop..... can you complain to the council?Work to live= not live to work0 -

Excellent, CTC! Let's hope Hay works out for you...:)
Not so good, lir. When you have workmen on the premises, you have to keep an eye on them, or that sort of thoughtless behaviour happens. I even had to keep a beady eye out at school, or else they would strim my newly planted saplings and dig up my perennials .....and those were the 'gardeners!' :rotfl:
