Very, very bored of widows and the hot air gun.
Have found original looking paint...in the grain of the wood so maybe som sort of under coat on the greogian front door.....pretty much the same colour as we have chosen.....a bit darker than ours which we thought was a ''brave'' dark white, in fact. HAs been black, and forest/bottle green and white since then though. Layers of each0 -
I dont eny you LIR..... keep up the good work:T:D
Well we have just come back from a jolly to hay on wye...what a lovely place...
we went to have a look at the antique shops etc... as a few of them have a sort of 'rent a space' the spots did work out a bit expensive...but cpmaring the pricing of htings that i would be selling there... i could double my prices on some things:D
will have a think about it, and might trial it for 3 months or so...
right a nice cuppa is in order...:pWork to live= not live to work0 -
God, its tedious! Another one more window downstairs at the front to go. There is an upstairs one we cannot reach and it doesn't open so we'll leave that as peeling white, annoy the neighbourhood with the job half done and aim to have that window as the first refurbished one. I don't know how much that will cost, its probably a next year job.
I spent most of today doing the front door. Its just so beautiful. I think I might leave it unpainted for a few weeks. We haven't ordered the new hard ware for it yet either, so might leave it, order that from next pay cheque (hand to mouth this month with the dog injury) and then repaint.
I almost wish we could leave it bare, its gorgeous....shows its age, fragments of colour of previous coats. Repairs...beautiful.0 -

My family home had Edwardian wooden double doors with stain glass windows (felt very posh opening the front doors) they were lovely.
One day we stripped all the paint off to get to the original mouldings and like you, my parents thought they looked lovely so my dad oiled them.
I think it was linseed oil, but 30 years and 2 owners later they still have have them and they look great.
Just a thought0 -

Might also be worth you passing their details/website etc onto Mr Taxman, i am sure he would be interested...;)
If they have over 50 birds they should be registered with defra....do you know if they are?
only another 2.5 weeks and we will be off to the Bulldog Bash:T:j

Good job it wasn't me who wrote that! :DThe mind boggles.....Still, better than hot widows armed with air guns....
We also thought Hay on Wye very pleasant (and expensive!) CTC. It attracts a lot of tourists, especially for the book shops. What about Llandeilo? Closer to you and getting quite an 'arty' reputation, but maybe not in Hay's league yet.

Our reply. I wish I could post their letter, but it's too long and I'm not willing to breach their confidentiality, even in these circumstances. As a terrible attempt at a smear campaign, it really made me giggle.
Dear Mr & Mrs Dodgy,
Your solicitor was right; you should not have written to us. Your latest missive does nothing to advance your cause. Indeed, with all the attempts to cast doubt upon our truthfulness, our husbandry, and now, the identity of the birds themselves, it is most revealing, though not about the matter in hand.
We are not interested in your suppositions, nor in responding to mischievous innuendo or badly-recalled 'facts.' We already know what happened:- You sold us 3 young pullets @ £35each
- Having observed all did not seem well, we emailed our first concern about the birds’ condition within 10 hours of purchase
- We followed your inappropriate advice re treatment of the hens.
- The birds’ condition worsened, gradually at first, and then more rapidly
- We sought veterinary advice & treatment. The vet found many lice & louse eggs (not mites) and diagnosed serious a respiratory illness
- One hen died & the two with suspected mycoplasma survived, but as potential carriers, were unfit for breeding from - the purpose for which they’d been purchased.
- You refused to take the surviving birds back, or make any offer of compensation
- In the light of the your refusal to accept any responsibility, we began the process of initiating a small claim against you
As you have nothing to offer us by way of a proposal to settle our claim, we shall proceed with it, as indicated in the recorded delivery letter sent last week.
Yours faithfully,
N.B.This post will self destruct when I feel like removing it!0 -
