right, I stuffed the incubator yesterday....bit worried I have got the egg mixed up and have a mix of hatching dates, so I'll need to monitor like a hawk and be prepared to do some creative altering of RH when I see some movement. I don't expect a huge hatch rate as a result (we had 100% last year). I'll grow em' on for you alfie, and then just tell me how many you want, and keep your fingers crossed for little girl eggs. :)

Alfie, I don't want to sound contradictory, but I think CTC has told us she's consulted a solicitor with regard to adverse possession and knows the position regarding the land next to her house.

I've been involved with adverse possession and rights of way matters (it's 12years for use of fenced off land unopposed, and 20 years for a r.o.w.) My family spent many thousands of £ recently, successfully defending a silly, malicious, adverse possession claim, so I know what a huge hassle it might cause the landowner, but the question is, is it worth it? The case took a couple of years, and the people who probably benefited most were the lawyers. What's more, once party wall surveyors were brought in, it was discovered that the person who filed the spurious claim was actually occupying someone elses land! Now that was justice, but not the outcome anyone expected.:rotfl:

Neighbours can be a pain, even when you have 5 acres between you and them. Yesterday, Mr Dog's dogs were at it all day and the wind was from that direction so, once again, it was decided that he gets an embankment, complete with parabolic reflector of corrugated iron on the top, u-bolted to a scaffolding pole frame. (No point in planning horrible revenges without the detail!) Whether that ever comes about, depends on how things go over the next year or so. I have been logging the 'bad' days, just to have something objective to work with, and to be honest, the problem doesn't warrant such draconian action at present. It is very easy to go off on one......'Act in haste, repent at leisure' and all that. ;)

Me thinks they know planning is not going to be plain sailing or even likely....

No, but people can occupy their own land in a caravan/temporary structure for 28 days a year......and if you can't be seen, those days can be difficult to count! :)

As you know, DW is hell-bent on having some more pure breeds, but if we can flog our city land this year, we'll be ready to start the second wave of egg production with hybrids next spring.

    Could be interested then!:D

The way I look at it, if they thought planning would be granted, or even if they thought there was a good chance, then they would have applied for it themselves, because then the land would be worth alot more.
So why did they not apply? Or have they applied already and it's been turned down? Sorry if you've already answered that somewhere.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

I've got sweet peas popping out of seed trays now....and got some delphinums sown at the weekend. Now thinging about food. If I use the east facing (will get some south light too) eventual flower border for veg this year too, and the soft fruit as a stay for a season. I'm desperate to get some of that italian lettuce started (I think its a great draw for gate sales as its so pretty but the local pub also is a possible avenue for sale...infact they ''buy'' produce in meals there or drinks). Time to get seriously thinking about food production now I think. I'm got some pots out to chit. And I'mvowing to get frst sowings of everything done this week.

The muck heap has about half drained. I'm guessing we'll have some very green grass from that water. Have had to switch it off as rain is certain today. The other pond, is as full as it was when we moved here. The pump will hopefully be fixed soon and we can start draining it again...5 months to go before we incurr a huge fine if it hasn't been seen empty....to think we were within four feet of it last year...

Alfie.... the laws changed a few years ago... so it is not as clear cut as it used to be....

Davesnave is right i have been to a solicitor, dont want to go into too much detail here, just incase, but even though i have a dame good case for adverse posession... i have got to weigh up the possible end costs of the legal fees etc...

There is also another way of looking at this, a positive could come out of a negative... basically when your back is well at truely against the wall, whether financial, or other...it does make you think, and act.... If it wasnt for that letter before christmas i wouldnt have found that old cottage... was it an omen ??? who knows, was it ment to be ???? who knows, but i am now going like a bull at a gate in work to make more money... got off my butt and done some vintage fairs, ( another one in a few weeks)

As hubby said if the worst comes to the worst, then all our chicken sheds will have to go in the back garden ( hahaha neighbour will love that ...lol...)

So i think this is why i am not as eager to start planting seeds etc this year :o

right better get off my butt and do some work.....lol....

EDIT...... I have contacting the council in question to see if planning has been applied for in the past, and i have also asked if there are any 'grey' areas that potentially they would refuse planning...Will try and chase this up today/tomorrow

alfie...if that nursery you spoke of as selling stuff off has any english yew that you notice could you let me know (and tell me where it is ;)). I've started a load of yew seeds, but don't mind starting the hedge with some plants. Yew is best lumpy bumpy anyway, IMO. And before anyone panics its roadside behind a ditch...I'm not killing of the critters!

Lir, you've made me think. I ought to be sowing yew too. I'm buying some plants in now, but there's a lot more we could use it for later. (Racks brain to remember where he saw yews around here 40 years ago!)

We've decided to use it the whole length of the front across the house, down to the ''drive''. I got seeds from suttons, but I'm worried I've left it to late for them to germinate this year. they say that I should leave the pots with no sign of life for TWO YEARS. Now in many ways I've been very patient, but two years for seeds might just make me explode.:o I'll try some cuttings in autumn (?) too I think, but not confident about it.

re rural business, we're hosting (but not charging this time) a one day course here in March...date to be confirmed. Very excited....hope it takes off. We've also registered as a potential client for a company who would build a n excellent resource for us that would bring some small income IMMEADIATLY and boost the other income stream, but most importantly :o be good for my social life here. I'm considering trying to get on the horse and slog out a dressage test just so I can meet some more people locally....:o but you know....its been a long time....and I you're not meant to speak, let alone say four letter words in time with the horse moving as different bits of your broken body are expected to move:rotfl:
