). I've started a load of yew seeds, but don't mind starting the hedge with some plants. Yew is best lumpy bumpy anyway, IMO. And before anyone panics its roadside behind a ditch...I'm not killing of the critters!

i do believe in fate, thats how i got this place... there was a reason you saw that place and wether it works or not it has sown the seed for what you want out of life. good luck.

ROFL, they might be....my guess is if its a big tree it might be Irish yew, but davesnave will know if we can use that for hedging....I'd wondered if being more upright it might be nice in the hedge for topiary balls later:o
I had a look under our one bit of yew and there was nothing0 -

bearing in mind they were put here pre 1880's iv been told !!0 -
it is a spreading branched yew, not a tight compact one, but maybe thats cos theyve never been pruned?? really red inside core of wood, like beautiful dark redwood cedar ?
bearing in mind they were put here in the 1880's iv been told !!
I don't know...needs a more experienced voice than me.. spreading sounds english though.....0 -

Spreading sounds like English yew. Pre 1880 is nothing; that's a teenager! You can use any of them for hedging.
Lir, you can have first dibs on this as your need is greater than mine, but if there are any spares...:)
Paid 56p/litre for oil today, but with the uncertainty in the Middle East I can't see it getting any cheaper for some time, if at all. With a bit of luck we can shut the Aga down in 6 weeks or so and hang on to what's left. Last year's fill-up at 41p looks cheap now!0 -

Besides.....until my seeds finish their two year decision making process then gow on a bit, I'm only able to patch
OK. I shall be over alfie's way in a month or so.0 -
Davesnave, topped up oil at 56p as well a couple of weeks back. Looking at the futures market it may well be that we dont see heating oil falling back as much as usual this summer. Time to dust off the heat pump plans again.
CTC, I'm watching with interest to see how you get on. Dont forget if its close to swansea you can check out any submitted planning applications online
Bit down atm, been running an infection for over two weeks now, energy levels low and the specialist antibiotics are causing some side effects.
Still, thats nowt compared to whats happening in ME and NZ, had text from DS1 this am who's in Wellington waiting to operate on casualties evacuated on flights from Christchurch.0
