i think i can lay claim to be the "southest" of the bunch:rotfl:
if you google lymington, hampshire.. i am opposite the isle of wight all bar 2 fields and a stretch of water !!
tho im not sure that geographically maybe davesnave is more south ??
my house comes up on google! full photo of front, didnt know they could do that ????

You are about 12 miles 'souther' than me, though the maritime influence and proximity to sea level ought to make more difference than simple distance from the Equator. However, you've had more snow and freezing fog than us, so far! I'd still like Ventnor's climate.

One thing about being here is that we often escape what lands on Exmoor & Dartmoor, being in their precipitation shadow. We're breezy, but not exposed, and extremes of frost seem to hit the valley villages south of us. Even Barnstaple on the north coast had serious problems with tenderish shrubs dying last winter, while those here pulled through.

I think you mean Google Street View, a wonderful new tool for house hunters, or just nosy people who want to see what their distant relatives' or old friends' houses look like! Since writing the Christmas cards, I've kept the address book here and had a poke around.;)

The full frontal of my house is out of date. Do a 180 and there's someone throwing ordure around with a dung spreader!:rotfl:

talking of house prices, here in the forest [as im sure other areas] you PAY to be here!! 40 years ago nobody wanted the BIG houses, too remote, to rambling. now its silly money. in Beaulieu 10 years ago there was one "lane" that there was not one house under £1 million ????
here at lymington [im 2 miles from town] houses are still silly money if they are prime position... the house nearest to me sold for £1.7million 5 yrs ago !! may i add my house is not so big and is not worth any where near that !! it is still a status symbol to say "where" they live to some. i couldnt give a monkeys as long as i can hav my animals id live in a tent !! iv been lucky to live "rural" all my life tho.

p.s. it does come in handy to have rich neighbours tho....i get given allsorts that they dont want/need anymore !! hehehe

we looked at a few i the Forest. I'm pleased, I wanted either Wiltshire or the Forest. There, DH would have been able to coe home at nights, but we worried about summer traffic, not a problem everywhere of course, but round the stations etc. Prices for the smaller places were just astronomical and then with the credit crunch the bigger ones were just TOO much. I love the idea of living on the Forest and I'll always regret we couldn't but....this place is good too. :)

Living near Cowbridge, I'll plead the fifth amendment :o

Mind, live near Bridgend too, so not posh at all :D

I think Cowbridge is pretty much comparable house price-wise with many 'nice' Westcountry villages. ;) Used to pop down that way to get fish & chips in Llantwit.:)

Bridgend we went to once.....It was a Saturday night and... err....lively!

Devizes is my favourite Wiltshire town. We used to do plant fairs there and we found the people very friendly. I have just sent a Christmas card off to a gardening pal at Roundway, just outside the town, but he's in his late 80s/early 90s so I worry that one year I may not hear from him. He lives in the most amazing house, built in the late 60s and more or less unaltered since, because he spent all his time in the garden!

Its generally a friendly area I'm finding. Bit rough at times in Trowbridge, and far too mauch street lighting and money wasted on town planners road layouts..not designed for normal usage. My best friend bought in Devizes, which is perfect because its close enough to be close for supper/emergency house keys etc without being claustrophobic for us or our partners, too far to pop round on spec for example. . (she's not in the area ATM though). Though I miss being as isolated as we were, and tbh that always makes me think we will one day leave here there is a luxury in being able to get to a supermarket/shop/and farm supplies within quarter of an hour of leaving home.

    Sort of.

A friend just moved to a village about 100 miles from here and posted her new address to us.

I stuck the addy into Street View and took a look at the house, noted that she'd apparently ignored the awful name it had had previously and emailed back to say I thought it was a good move.

Just for fun I added, "Glad you've chosen to drop the silly name."
She was flabbergasted, but she knew nothing of Street View, so to her, it seemed I was psychic!:rotfl:
