One of my elderly cats isn't too great. He gets rhinitis & he's very 'chesty' this morning. Vets is neaarly 70 miles away. I'm gonna try & get him to post summat (anti-biotics) out.
sorry to hear re your puss cat. i was told by an old farmer years ago that he gave "anything" with a hint of cold/respiratory probs...a dose of benylin. iv done this ever since and it works.... i had a horse with a weeze and vet gave me VERY expensive bottle of medicine,[enough for a hamster!!] i took it to the chemist who checked ingredients and yes it was on par with benylin so thats what iv used since !! MUCH cheaper and if it DOESNT work, cant harm them.

Thanks Alfie - but beylin acts as a cough suppressant & the elderly cat is sneezing up stuff - which is good, I don't want to suppress that action, rather I need to dry up the mucus stuff.

It was believed that Weemon would be on steriods for life - he's at least 18 & incredibly fat, but he goes for really long spells being fine. It comes when we have really cold weather, or the stove blows back. I managed to stop smoking this year & one of the main incentives was being told by the vet it was irritating the cat.

    More snow & bitterly cold.

We have had no more snow today just more ice (well it feels like it!). Staying in tonight with a friend some takeaway and a nice bottle (or 2) of wine. Just what I need after a long week! The animal feed arrived today too so all I need is some extra hay, which I could live without and some bedding.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!

Well, feeling a bit hard done by with the snow not staying, but it means Dh will get home. Last year he got snowed in for weeks and weeks, so I suppose hoping for that again was bound to lead to disappointment.

Hi Alfie - we had him gone through all sorts of tests when this first appeared in him. It was feared he had a tumour - so all sorts of things were ruled out.
The vet is excellent but a distance off & since wee mon was diagnosed he'll post me out stuff that I can inject him with if I'm happy that it is just a recorrence of the same problem. It usually clears it up & doesn't start up again until somethinghas set it off again. We have had the stove blowing out reek - just the strong direction of the gusts & I think that's done it this time, but it's sort of gone dwon into his chest - poor wee fella. He's a toughie but i'm taking no chances as he's my hot water bottle.

could you have one of those [not sure correct name] things that, either by candle heat or plug in, let out a gentle inhaler type vapour [ sorry to be vague, on tip of my tongue, the name, ] that puts it into the atmosphere in the room?. i know asthmatics use them to help them breathe at night.
