    He was being funny.

I don't usually sell to people outside the UK, as it's just too much hassle. If it's going to cost more than the allocated £10, I would get him to arrange his own courier. ie they come and collect it from your house and he foots the bill. Where I work we have to send shipments to Ireland and Abroad. One particular company who are in Ireland arrange their own collections.

Hi, I have sold numerous high end watches on ebay and always have my settings to bar overseas bidders as I am just too nervous sending high value items abroad.

I would just pay the going rate for international signed for and take the hit for any cost over the £10 you quoted (shouldn't make much of a dent on a £1000 sale)

i don't think you can't have £1000 insurance with airsure or international signed for, i think the max is £500

International signed for does not guarantee a signature so isn't really suitable for use with paypal.

Germany is covered by Airsure but top limit for insurance appears to be £500.

It doesn't matter what buyers says paypal consider the seller and the seller only liable for insuring item arrives.

If item is underinsured and gets lost buyer can do a chargeback via paypal and get a full refund and you will lose out as cannot make a full claim from RM.

Is there any chance buyer will pay via bank transfer ?

In that case if I were the OP I would try and pursuade the buyer to do a mutual withdrawal of sale (is that the right term?) stateing to him that the auction was for UK bidders only as international was not stated on delivery options, then sell via a second chance to next highest bidder.

If buyer will not agree then just refuse to sell anyway, refund, and take the hit if he chooses to report you as a none performing seller (think thats the right term?) and take any neg feedback by adding a comment after his feedback explaining reasons
