JulieSpencer: I completely agree with JesaRose. Being brought up from a early age to shop in junk shops, jumble sales, chazza shops and car boots it becomes second nature to find a vintage/designer gem. Like JesaRose I've turned my hobby into a full-time Ebay business, I had to, my house was getting too full. Don't worry too much about vintage or desgner stuff, grab what you like. With practice you'll probably find yourself drawn to a quality fabric as it stands out.

A book that's got some great reviews at the moment is : Charity Shopping: The Thrift Lifestyle by Lettice Wilkinson.

Great thread, I'm loving some of the MSE bargains. :j

thanks for the help, very kind of you, i will have a look for that book on ebay or amazon.
the boot sales have started where i live so il have a good rumage and see what my luck brings , thank you:beer:

For the first time I went to the local charity shops with the intention of looking for a "best bargain" and found a leather & fabric Coach handbag for £2.50. Now I have to decide whether to keep or sell it.

Use your bag and get some enjoyment from it. When you get bored with it pop it on eBay, then you get your wardrobe for free!
  • Hey Goanmad, would love to look at (and perhaps buy!) some of your treasures on Ebay - what's your shop called? Cheers!

Well, this fab thread inspired me to go and look around some local charity shops yesterday and........zilch, there was nothing worth buying lol. I don't live in a very affluent area and I guess the clothes donated to charity shops reflects that. I think I need to move to the areas some of you live, lol!

I can't wait until the car boots start round here.....I got some fantastic bargains last summer!

    I got some goodies today:

    1 x 1960s ventriloquist Pelham puppet £4

Pair of Kurt Geiger brand new knee boots £6 and I know they were £120 originally as I have the exact same ones which I bought for £11 on Ebay a couple of years ago. Do I need two pairs the same:rolleyes:

Vintage 30s/40s pill box hat £3

Vintage 20s handbag which will fit very nicely in my collection £3

3 solid wood picture grames £7 - I've been looking for some for a couple of weeks so saved quite a bit on these and they are brand new

    A sucessful day charity shopping:D

Great bargains, MSEs! Been busy with eBay most of the week so no chance to do any chazza shopping. Had a big spring clean and managed to donate 2 bin bags full of clothes and shoes to the British Heart Foundation so feeling quite virtuous :A! Better keep out of their shop for the next few weeks or I'll be buying my old stuff back...it always looks better when it's in their window.

Popped into a charity shop on the way back from swimming this morning and snaffled a groovy 1950's frilly swim cap for 50p.

There's lots of boot sales on this weekend plus a good jumble sale tomorrow morning (always do well with furniture/household stuff at this one) and another jumble sale next thursday lunchtime. I'll post my bargains if I get any.

monkeymonkeymonkey: Daren't give details of my shop on here. No-one will want anything when they see how little I pay for my stock!:rotfl:

In my newly inspired state, I visited the charity shop near my work and spent 20mins rummaging... didn't find anything designer, vintage or remotely cool, but picked up three best selling books for £3!

When I got home I noticed my new copy of Pride and Prejudice said 'Free with the Daily Express' on the back. :o
