GrammarGirl, try the website www.carbootjunction.com as it has a comprehensive list of all car boot sales throughout the UK.

We couldn't go to the local wednesday one today as I'd forgotten the camper was having it's MOT (fingers crossed it's all better for the weekend).

Thanks goanmad, there are a few near me so I'll definitely be checking them out!

A couple of weeks back I picked up a brand new Rio laser hair removal system for £10 from a charity shop, current selling price is around £120, so feel I did well.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

A real bargain, Cattie, I'd love to try that Rio system out. Ballymackeonan's bargain buys sound amazing I bet she won't be sharing the location of that shop to us MSEs.

My charity shop bargains today were a pair of perfectly fiiting Clarks' brown knee high vintage leather boots for £1 and a hand knitted beret for 20p. :T

Great weather forcast for sunday so depending on the size of my hangover it could be a car boot sale day.

I wish the car boot sales had started in my area - I have to wait until April :(

Just checked this for my area and the info is way out of date so ask around before you go.

I was at my local charity shops yesterday and was shocked how much theyve put up their prices. In the past Ive bought my wee girl gap and monsoon clothes and paid £2 for them. Now they are asking £5 and £6. I even saw Primark stuff for the same price it sells for in Primark
TRYING hard to be a good money saver

I LOVE charity shops and eBay.

I honestly don't think I have bought a full price tag for years now. I recycle all my clothes, and cannot pass a charity shop without going in for a good rummage. I have got it down to a fine art! Evening dresses and tops first, (I buy any good designer labels...if they don't suit me....sell on ebay) skirts, trousers, shoes, handbags. So many cruisers now...the evening dresses sell well on eBay.

I wish I could post pics here of the things I have found. I actually shouted out loud in BHF when I found a Jane Norman dress I sadly passed over because of the huge price tag last year...I found it for 50p!! In my size!! Who cares about fashion trends when the stuff suits you?? I started going in to C shops when low rise jeans were all you could buy in fashion (if you could see my muffin top you would know why) and got two pairs of normal waisted, brand new Per Una jeans for a fiver.

I have made quite a bit from my designer bargains sold on eBay. I also look in the paper for Scout jumble sales in good local areas (not being snobby, but there are better quality things to be found. I got a pale gray Max Mara suit for 10p. I sold it for £45.00 on eBay.)

Tips: Buy anything M&S. Stretchy tops, classic suits and trousers....they wash well, sell well, and never go out of fashion. Avoid Primark, George.

If there is a new fashion trend, go in about two months later. All the lovely stuff is on the racks, while 'they' are wandering about in Madonna kilts and platforms.

    Best Buys:

Brand new 'Designers at Debenham's' Prom/Cruise dress and wrap - £2.00, sold for £32.00

'Max Mara' suit - see above

    Silver 'Ghost' dress - £2.00, sold £39.00

    Lovely jubbly!
    Life.

    Bring it on! :j
  • About the location of my bargains, I'm based in Craigavon in N Ireland, there are great charity shops in a lot of locations here... Lurgan, Portadown, Banbridge, Armagh etc - sometimes you just strike lucky! The shops with car parking seem to get more donations - so possibly the "big names" in town centres lose out, people won't carry bags.

I've also bought a number of great pictures in charity shops, car boots etc - I always go for originals or limited-edition prints, and I'm prepared to pay for reframing - always look at the picture rather than the frame!
