I haven't to a 'bootie' for ages, however some of my best ever charity Shop finds were:
DVF silk dress for £7.00
two Mulberry handbags for £6.00 each
Texier handbag for £4.99
Coach sandals for £5.00
Hobbs suit for £12.00
about 5 proper cashmere Pashminas for £1.00 - £2.00 each
Russell and Bronnley ponyskin boots for £2.50
Earl Jeans for £3.49
Rayban Wayfarers for £1.00
Abercrombie and Fitch jeans £9.99
Abercrombie and Fitch hoodie for £4.99
Cath Kidston blouse £3.00
Le Creuset dish for 50p
5-6 vintage cake stands for £1.00 - £3.00
I look for stuff I wouldn't usually buy and have been very very lucky.
I'm not sure of the hoodie is authentic A & F, everything else is though.
Great finds everyone, keep 'em coming!!A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

Got some good bargains!
I spent £23 and got...
an Ercol table...
A pair of vintage (but brand new) brogue/lace-up jazz shoe type things with a small heel...
A few deadstock 60s tops...
A vintage st michael slouchy grandad cardi (but found when I got home that it had a huge whole in the arm, so I suppose that doesn't count)...
A couple of vintage nighties...
A black leather satchel...
A topshop sweater...
A little wooden mouse ornament thingy...
And some 60s placemats!
Was really really good today at the local 'Boot, better than ever in fact - must have been the lovely weather!0 -
Just to add something wealthier places does always equal great bargains. I was very excited to be going to Harrogate to go charity shopping. Most of it was bobbly Primark basic jumpers/t shirts for the same price as new. The Oxfam was a joke. Nothing in the shop was cheaper than about £8 and a horrible, faded St Michael labelled marks and spencer dress... £25!!! Not likely.0

juliespencer - i think you just tend to pick the info up if its your hobby. I love fashion and especially vintage stuff so its just something i know plus my mum always took me round charity shops when I was little as she was a single parent and couldn't afford lots of new stuff.
You could probably learn a bit from some books, even Millers Collectables Guides (but ignore they prices as they are not accurate). The best way is to learn what fashions come from what era and learn the brand names of vintage and designers. There must be some good sites out there to help so its worth Googling and Ebay vintage section would be a good start. Have a look on www.ebay.co.uk/pulse in the vintage clothing section to see what are the top 10 most watched vintage items - gives you a good idea of popular styles at the moment
My hobby turned into a career as I now run a chain of charity shops including an Ebay shop. The antiques and vintage parts are my passions and I still love a bargain. I don't get any bargains from work as if its valuable I price it for the shops or put it on my work ebay shop but I still find bargains for myself in other charity shops, love bootsales, jumbles etc
I am so jealous that the bootsales near me have not started yet. Your bargains sound fabulous! Not been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550 -
I am loving this thread! I'm a complete fan of car boots and I am absolutely amazed at the great things some of you are finding at them (especially Goanmad!). The boot sales haven't yet started this year in my area, I can't wait until they do!0

hi, great thread. Locally i only seem to have one resonable priced charity shop.
I did well with a jam jar of buttons for a £1 from charity shop. I bought them to craft with my daughter but found an unusual glass button. Did some research and realised it was a special on and got over a tenner for it on ebay. I also have other buttons i need to research i reckon half of them are to good to craft with lol
I found a gorgoues karen millen top for £3.95 fitted me and was very sexy but i felt abit to exposed to sold it on ebay for £60 (started it at 99p)
Had a black silk corset top £3.99 it was divine but abit big on me sold for £35
I got a country casuals silk skirt 99p looks fab with a shirt and belt and fits so kept that .
a 50p belt it was 3 tones of gold plaited sold it on for over a tenner looked similar to an exspensive one in magazines at the time.0 -

JulieSpencer: I completely agree with JesaRose. Being brought up from a early age to shop in junk shops, jumble sales, chazza shops and car boots it becomes second nature to find a vintage/designer gem. Like JesaRose I've turned my hobby into a full-time Ebay business, I had to, my house was getting too full. Don't worry too much about vintage or desgner stuff, grab what you like. With practice you'll probably find yourself drawn to a quality fabric as it stands out.
A book that's got some great reviews at the moment is : Charity Shopping: The Thrift Lifestyle by Lettice Wilkinson.
Great thread, I'm loving some of the MSE bargains. :j
