I LOVE charity shops and eBay.

    Avoid Primark, George.

I have to disagree! I've sold three Primark dresses on eBay in the last week for a combined total of £60. Also got lots of George suff from a jumble sale the other day (10p an item) if you didn't look at the label you'd never know where it had come from, all pure cotton, really vibrant prints, quite retro. This all sold well on eBay.

goanmad is right - I always buy way too much in Primark (one in every colour) then after 6 months haven't worn it, put it on ebay and it makes more than I bought it for! Daft but true

Your bargains made me hungry for charity shops so i just popped out and bought two handbags for my collection: one vintage and one from George at Asda which is very "in" right now, plus some gorgeous 1950s buttons which were 1p each!

Well done, JesaRose! :T I love vintage buttons, too.

Went to a jumble sale earlier and came back with a Karen Millen dress, 2 leather clutch bags, 3 1980's dresses, a pillbox hat with veil, a pair of vintage sandals (not my size, boo-hoo), a Linea dress with the £65 price tag still on, a full-length leather coat and loads of Primark stuff (some still with labels) which will all go on eBay.
I'm keeping a really sweet vintage 1970's shoulderbag, Kate Moss at Topshop yellow vest and a funky leather belt in purple and teal. My Mum's getting a Per Una angora jumper and a Per Una leather Boho belt.

    I spent £4.50!!!

I don't disagree that some of the stuff is good enough quality - it's just in my experience, people know how cheap they are to start with (you can get a good dress in Primark for 6.99) and are not prepared to pay much more. There is nothing like the profit on these labels as on others ...and for me, it's all about the money making!!!:D

Congrats on making so much on eBay!

    I am soooooo jealous :)

I have found that some people will pay good money for Primark items if they are very fashionable right now because some things sell out and some don't have a shop near them.

A lot of hype exists with Primark stuff, it often gets chosen by TV stylists like Mark Hayes and flagged by fashion editors in magazines. People become desperate for it and don't care about the quality or cost. Like JesaRose says not everyone lives near a Primark. I think it's mad but as long as I'm making a profit I'm not going to analyse it too deeply, I'll just keep reading the fashion mags and keeping my eyes open!

What a beautiful morning today! Despite last night's booze-fest I'm off booting, wish me luck...

  • I've also bought a number of great pictures in charity shops, car boots etc - I always go for originals or limited-edition prints, and I'm prepared to pay for reframing - always look at the picture rather than the frame!

Conversely I always look at the frame rather than the picture. Bought a large picture from a jumble sale - the pic was some hideous modern print which had been put in a beautiful gesso frame. £1!! (Also had the original print behind it but yet to research this.)
  • So, what bargains did people pick up from the boot sales today?!?
