to be honest, i'm not sure, its the bits and pieces of someones life, and i forgot to say that it must have come from a house clearance because his obituary clipping was in the pages of the dictionary, so i had a bit of a think about him, and his life, and his family, the letter was to him and his wife, and now i dont know what i'll do with it.

i must say it made me a bit sad for a while despite being fascinating.

That's a nice thing to do with it, even if that's all that you do - I love a bargain, and because I scour car-boots, auctions jumble sales and the tip, you do come across obviously house-cleared items quite often - it always makes me feel a bit pensive too. However, if I can 'rescue' something and use it and love it afresh, I always think that's one of the best tributes you can make. I once found a huge bagful of beautifully knitted babies' clothes that had just been put into a bag a dropped at the tip. It made me sad to think of the woman who'd spent so much time and care knitting them, and whoever it was who cleared them didn't even think of giving them to a charity shop. At the time, they were appealing for warm clothing to go to earthquake victims in Pakistan, and our local Rotary had a lorry collecting bits for it - so the people at the tip let me take them as a donation for that. I couldn't bear to think of them going into landfill.

On a slightly cheerier nore, one that I did mange to get past the car-boot scrutineer (aka my husband) was a little book from the 1950's on the 'Art of letter writing' - it is the funniest book I have ever ever read, for the glimpses it gives of a bygone age couldn't be better. Kind of like the Timewaster letters or the Henry Root letters, but without the intentional irony. I must dig out a couple of examples!!

Yesterday my local church had a jumble sale ... any item 20p. I got a pair of Wallis linen trousers, a pair of M&S linen trousers and a really sweet jacket that I bought for the lovely buttons but it fits me perfectly. I felt really bad handing over just 60p so I chucked a handful of change in the collection bucket on the way out. My neighbour did even better than me, she got an entire bed set (curtains, duvet cover, pillowcases) for £1. She thought it was M&S but when we looked at the care label its Laura Ashley!

So inspired by this thread I went "booting" all morning!

    My Haul.

Bike for DD Almost new £7
The following Brand New shrink wrapped toys :-
Bop It Extreme 2 £3 (sold already for £17)
LOTR Trivial Pursuit DVD Game £2
    Game of Life £2
    The Bedlam Cube 50p

    and the following Books.

    30 Mr Men/Little Miss Books £3.
    2 Rupert Annuals £1
    1 Garfield Annual 10p

I found it useful standing by each stall for a few seconds listening to how the sellers spoke and gave prices. You can soon see which will accept offers.

Hmfp, went to where a car boot was supposed to be in North Tyneside and no sign.

All the websites I've looked at re car boots seem to be OOD.

Where are you located Princess Jane?

Today was another great day at the boot sales, got my son a brand new pair of school shoes in soft leather for 50p - the woman said her son wouldn't wear them as they weren't flashing!! They'd have cost me £30 in Clarkes and he needed a new pair.

Then another lady was selling everything for 10p as she just wanted to clear her store so I got a brand new wine set boxed for 10p - the lady in front of me got a brand new boxed DVD player for 10p!!!

Plus loads of great quality clothes ranging from 50p - £1 - the quality of our family's clothing has gone up so much since I started car booting.

    Oh I love Sundays!!!

Wow! I'm guessing my auntie is sitting on a small fortune's worth of Pippa memorabilia. I will definitely let her know next time I see her, unfortunately our contact is infrequent and we're no longer very close, as we were when I was younger. The Pippa dolls have a real sentimental value to me actually, as she brought them for me to play with when I was in hospital for 12 weeks aged 5! :)
