  • Took a chance yesterday and bought a uni text book for 50p and it turns out to be one on my daughter's reading List that she couldn't afford.

I used to work for a charity store...in the one I worked for the staff (management) were left to price the items themselves within certain "guidelines" set down by the charity itself, it seemed. My boss and I occasionally had arguments over pricing, but worked out well for me one time when she'd priced an as-new cashmere woolen cardigan for under £5 (dread to think what it would have cost new!)...very pretty as well, black with very colourful design on the front. Anyhow, that was a bargain :).

It is still possible to pick up bargains in charity shops, but it is getting harder...I know that when I get married I'm getting my dress from a charity shop, though. The one I worked at had a special bridal department and over 90% of the dresses were brand new, donated direct from bridal stores because they were "last season". Saw one with a pricetag of around £800 that the shop was selling for under £200...was unbelievable :O
  • 3 pc medici suit for mum cost me £8.99.I think theres a little bit missing though as there are 2 pop studs at the top of the jacket and nothing in between,I think there should be a fastener there. Its lovely though.

Pricing can be a bit quirky in any charity shop - I've found that Italian, French etc clothes tend to be underpriced because the staff in my local charity shops don't recognise the designer names! So - a Max Mara alpaca coat for £3.50, classic Max Mara black cords and Cerutti trousers for £2.00 etc.

I'm currently wearing a Basler top with an Evelin Brandt cardi on top, total £4.50 - I dread to think what they would have cost!

I can be conspicuously well-dressed for very little, and change my wardrobe regularly. And I also keep my eyes open for anything else of interest...!

Can someone send me/post details of where the battersea car boot is? Is it every sunday?

Anyone know of any others in the area? I live in Camberwell, must be something better than an old lady sitting outside a car park selling a few t-shirts lol.

2 saturdays ago I popped to a local schools table top sale, was mostly tatty kids toys, I spotted a few playstation1 games, the lady wanted £2 each, I wasnt sure if my partner would play them so offered her £8 for all 6 of them which she took, when I got them home my partners jaw almost hit the floor, in my innocence I'd only picked up the rarest playstation games going. I sold 3 on ebay last week for £66.72 for all 3, I am unsure what to do with the rarest one thats going for £129.99 on ebay
