  • OMG!I did it again.Seriously thinking of selling of all my kids clothing business stock and changing direction now.Making more money buying junk than I ever have running a proper business.
This morning I picked up a limited edition Mychael Barratt print for a whopping £9.99.Thats the most I have ever paid for anything from a junk store.Looked it up online and his prints this size sell for £190 in a /150 edition, mine is /100 so may even be worth a bit more.I will let you know what I get for it and if I do sell this for lots I am changing carreer.

ThriftyBelle - Just wanted to say thanks for directing me to Battersea car boot sale, I went yesterday for the first time with my 2 younger brothers and we had a great time!! I got loads of good bits; we got some stuff to put on eBay and kept a lot more for myself. Highlights were a DKNY bag for £5 (I think my brother FredT mentioned this earlier), new Topshop and H&M vest tops for 50p each, a cute round hat box which I adore for £4.

I will definately be back there, very very soon!!

That's okay :D That is the only car boot sale i go to near where i live, but if you know of anymore, or any local jumble sales, feel free to tell me :) I'm glad you all found some things. If only i went last sunday, i would have got that hatbox before you (though saying that, i probably wouldn't have as i tend to only bring out about £10 with me ). I love hatboxes, i have 5 at the moment, but i am going to start to build up my collection :D
BEST WINS - beyonce tickets, lfwe tickets, maybelline calendar and makeup, pair of legally blonde tickets x 3 :), tickets for valentine's day premiere, breakfast at tiffany's dvd, jaeger handbag and purse, sony digital radio, paul's boutique bag set.

WINS 2011 - £50 urban outfitters vouchers, lumie clear skin treatment (worth £149)

I even stay in on a sat nite during the summer so i can get up bright n early to get to the boot sales...maybe abit extreme but i am addicted for about 4 months of the year...
    thanks again xxxxxx :j

I do that too - plus we are saving for a house and wedding so don't like spending money on drinking anymore. I can't deal with the hangovers and I would much rather go booting instead.

  • As a matter of interest do certain chains of charity shops have the same pricing policy? I went in Barnardos the other day and couldn't believe how steep the prices were compared to other charity shops. Dresses approx £10, tops £5. Just cheap makes too - Tesco, Primark etc. Laura Ashley, Monsoon type things £10-15!! Does anyone find certain ones cheaper than others?

I find independent charity shops are the best, ones that have everything packed in here and there. I resent paying £4 or £5 for a washed out Asda t shirt when its less money brand new!

There's a shop I go to that prices all small books at 20p each, nothing has a price written on it. You hold your breath hoping you can afford it then they come out with, oh I'll take 50p for that! I've got a cake stand, glass lemon squeezer, loads of text books, vintage ladybird books, vintage embroidered pillow cases from this shop. Its on a high street surrounded by Victorian terraced houses so lots of older people living there.

Each charity chain has its own pricing policy, however they set certain shops at different levels depending on the area. Some of the big chains have silly high price levels and set difficult targets for their shops to reach.

At the one I work for we have 4 levels for pricing ranging from:
level one - Primark for example
to level four - Alexander McQueen for example

Its silly to price all tops the same price no matter what make it is. Brilliant if you get Alexander McQueen at £5 but ridiculous for Primark as it might not have cost that much new

Oxfam and British Heart Foundation are usually the most expensive in my experience, and Cancer Research is not far behind

Just thought i would say hi, my husband pointed me in the direction of this thread :T,
I have been car-booting, buying from charity shops and jumbles for 5 years, i find it very adictive and i spend most weekends looking around boot-sales. I started off buying clothes for the children now i have moved on to buying clothes for me, antiques, vintage toys and collectibles. I am trying to decide if i should go self employed selling on e-bay.

I love the thrills of finding something at a boot-sale that you know is worth more than what you are paying for it and i love watching the price go up on e-bay.

I often find Boden, Monsoon and designer clothes for my children (they have too much clothes) and i have saved a fortune by buying 2nd hand, when they have finished with it i sell it on and get my money back.

I am looking forward to this weekend as its bank holiday and there are extra boot-sales on. I'm going to try and fit as many in as possible. One of the boot-sales i go to i pay 6 pound to get in 2 hours early but its well worth the money, last weekend i picked up some designer clothes for myself and i nice coat for next winter.

Can someone send me/post details of where the battersea car boot is? Is it every sunday?

Anyone know of any others in the area? I live in Camberwell, must be something better than an old lady sitting outside a car park selling a few t-shirts lol.
