So continuing my L Word saga... I tried emailing the buyer several times:
5 times from my yahoo US account
2 times from my yahoo UK account
2 times from my friends hotmail account
1 time from my work outlook account

She has hotmail which I have trouble getting emails thru to. I emailed friday and saturday and then finally yesterday I emailed again to say that I would be dispatching it.

What happened was I listed as region 2 when in fact it was region 1 - oops, tried to contact her to ask if she wanted a refund, no contact so I sent it yesterday with an email saying that if she can't play the dvds that I would try and get her a hack for her dvd player.

What else can I do?/Should I have done?

    Worried about neg feedback.

    Thanks

    Oh yeah forgot to say...

Me and hubbie decided to do the book thing a little bit more seriously so I bought a pallet of books from ebay. It cost £420 including postage and was for 500 new books, they were all computer, course textbooks and travel. The seller sent me the full list with isbns before I bought so I checked out some of the isbns on ebay and they look promising. 3 of the books are being sold by amazon for £100 not just other sellers but amazon, several books over £50 and all over £10, there were a few duplicates but all in all it seemed like a good bet. Plus we theorised that if they don't sell then worse comes to worse we sell them for £1 each at the bootsale - we will still make an £80 profit, and after looking round bootsale and buying books sunday I think £1-£2 min. on these types of books, therefore I don't think it was too much of a risk. The seller was a powerseller with 100% so I think it was probably one of the safer bids I could have done.

We cleared space for the pallet in our garage so storage shouldn't be a problem, will need a whole lot of envelopes though!

I will be selling them on amazon, abebooks and ebay.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Have I taken too big a risk? Am an experienced seller, doing for almost a year.

    Thanks

    Yey. Way to go Kat.
    Hope it works out!!
Must be exciting taking a plunge such as that.

How will the delivery come to you? It's literally a big pallet load of books?

Apparantly, the distribution side of our firm lose quite a bit of cash on pallets. Instead of drivers returning empty ones that they pick up from customers, they sell the odd 1 or 2 at the roadside to folks advertising to buy them in laybuys/industrial areas. They fetch about £15.00 each if I remember correctly.

I agree. It makes my half dozen charity shop purchases for resale look downright yellow. :)

    Good luck with it!

Its so great knowing you are all here to help out!!!

I sold a book last week which was despatched the same day. The book came back to me on Saturday morning saying "Return to sender, not known at this address". I emailed the woman saying.....
    "Hello there,
You recently purchased a book from me about wine tasting. This was despatched the same day to the address provided by yourself through Amazon.
This morning the book has been returned to me as "Not at this address, return to sender".

Please could you let me know if you have provided me with the incorrect address. The address I was given is....etc...etc"

The woman has taken until today to email me and has simply given me her correct address without any apologies or mention of postage costs. I have paid £2.12 for this book to be delivered once so need a nice way of asking for her to pay for postage again!!!! Just thinking about it is giving me a headache...what if she decides she doesn't want to pay again etc etc...it could turn into a total nightmare!!!!!

  • Zoe - I'd explain that you sent it to the address that you were given by amazon and ask if she would like to send you £2.12 to post it again (or maybe offer 2nd class), if she doesn't seem keen then offer a refund and then quietly fume.

Thanks AT...it went second class the first time so cannot get it any cheaper...its a heavyish book!!!!

I don't want to be out of pocket and the mistake WAS HERS!!! If she decides on a refund can I issue a partial refund to cover the cost of me posting the book to the wrong address???

How about I practice my wheedling email on you lot!!!

Here goes..."Unfortunately as the address provided by yourself was incorrect and the postage to that address has already been paid for I will require a payment of £2.12 to cover the cost of posting a second time. I will not add on extra for packing as it was a genuine mistake on your part"

If all went well and she agreed to pay then what is the best way to do it??? Can you send an invoice through Amazon or is it better to send a Nochex or Paypal invoice??? I have no idea!!!
