Hey my earlier winge at having had no sales for ages worked!!
One Amazon sale and one RISI swap!!
Fattyrae - all marketplace items are sold with individual p&p rates applied to them. I'm not sure if you can cancel the order, but it is worth at least emailing the sellers to ask them if they will combine postage - I'm sure if it was me I would be happy to - they can then issue you with a partial refund if you can reach an agreement.AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0033 come and join us :j make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board0 -

fattyrae1 wrote:Thanks numberthree, but i contacted both and only one has replied. He said amazon set the p&p and that was that. No mention of a refund or anything. He's probably just happy that he's made £18 profit on a stupid idiot like me.
I have responded on the other thread, but would ask you to remember that the seller hasn't made anywhere near that sort of profit. He would have paid commission of over £1 on each of those books, and gets no discount from Amazon for block sales.

Well, you would know more than me!
Surely though, if you are paying £1 per book, why sell it for 1p? Where do you make your profit on that.....I like my money right where I can see it - hanging in my closet.;)0 -
The standard postage cost for a book from Amazon is £2.32 (light books the seller will not spend that much on postage, heavier books they may well pay more) so you have to calculate the total amount you'll receive from Amazon and factor in what actual postage will cost you. I sold a thin paperback book the other day; I set the price at £4.49 and the buyer paid £7.24, but by the time Amazon had added the postage credit, removed their fees and I paid the actual postage cost, I made a net profit of £4.48. But another one for which the buyer paid £2.76, I only saw 62p for it. Sometimes it's not worth listing a book at 1p but that's for each seller to decide. The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0

You make the profit in the post and packing. Amazon have a postal allowance of £2.75 per book (I think that's wrong..but hopefully someone will correct me in a moment). So the seller will pay £2.76, Amazon take £1.35 commission (83p less if the seller is a paid up member), and the balance goes to the seller but they have to cover all the post and packing charges.
As I'm not a paid up member I could sell a book for 1p as long as I knew that the cost of posting it would be less than the £1.41 I would get from Amazon.
Sorry, I'm not sure I'm being very clear here, but it;s been a long day at work and I can't think straight. If you wait for AT to log in or one of the other regulars they will explain it better than me.

Soo
I'm not sure that AT can explain it any better! the key to it is how heavy the books are and as these are small light books the sellers will be making their money on the allowance that amazon gives for each book
Going back to the original query about the £30.00 book bill - if I was one of the sellers I'd either cancel the order and refund the money or combine them and put a refund in the parcel so I'd appeal to their better nature.0 -
Quite disappointed with today's batch of books, are well over 250 books which had they not been stored in a garage would be in excellent condition. Most have fair to heavy yellowed pages but the actual page edges on some are dark dark brown. But the smell of musty books is overwhelming! If you pick up a single book and smell it its not too bad but when you have a room full of them it bloody stinks!
Got another lot coming next week, fortunately the woman is clearing out her bookshelves, I just hope her bookshelves are in her nice warm house! After that will give it a rest until we have moved whenever that may be!I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

becky004, I love books but that smell of old books makes me shudder. It is a real problem, I can hardly bear them when they start to go musty and even on some newer books have left them out in the back garden on a dry day to 'air'.
In my last boxes I had lots of books from the 1930s, no good on Amazon of course as they have no isbn numbers and I decided not to list them on ebay but to take them straight to Oxfam for their specialist shops. I know I should have tried selling them but it is a real problem for me and I just had to get them out of the house, daft I know.

Well I have had feedback today from somebody who says that price of item was a bit high. Last time I checked I wasn't forcing anybody to buy my items. It was an item where there was a selling waiting and I charged below what it was reccomending. No pleasing some people.April £5 a day challenge- £15.05/£1500
