I know this probably sounds greedy but I would suggest buying the whole of a dinner service rather than just the bits you think you will need. Either that or ask for a plain one that you can add to. We have been married only 2yrs and our service has been discontinued. We only ordered 6 of everything as that's all we had room for/ needed at the time but now we have a bigger house and table to seat 8 and as I have a huge family (2 x step families) having matching things would have been good! Also, we only bought mugs and not cups and saucers but I really wish we had them!

Le creuset do fab stuff, we got loads as wedding gifts and use it all the time.

Personally I like to buy things for a couple that I know will be used/ treasured for a long time, so I tend to avoid gimmicky kitchen stuff like juicers and smoothie makers and go for solid traditional things.

another thing to consider is price- a good range, and the fact guests may only buy half a set (we had to buy odd glasses etc to make up the full set, a cost we were not expecting)

Where are you having your list?

Congrats at getting married. How exciting.

I would def ask for a slow cooker. They are fab.
  • I'm not married, but when I moved in with OH my brother got me this http://www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/Products/Processing-Blending-Mixing/Food-Choppers/Mini-Chopper/ and it has been completely invaluble to me! It takes up no room, and gets everything done a lot quicker, so you can get more home cooking smells on the go.

Good quality bed linens - can be very expensive otherwise and it will be something that gets used all the time.

How nice to get into freshly made bed (:D anyway!) and think that this was a gift from x&y :D:D:D

    Ps - Congrats

    Hi zcrat,

Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding! I agree with others, good quality linen and towels is a must and if you enjoy cooking a good food processor is a great timesaving device.

These earlier threads have lots more ideas that may help:

    OS wedding list

    Must have kitchen gadgets

And this one will show you what people find less useful:

    Unused kitchen gadgets

I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the ideas together.

  • Congrats!!!

I second the slow cooker, good knives, oven to table ware (something I want).

  • We got a kenwood chef from my hubby's parents... so generous of them and I use it several times a week. We also use often these things:

A good set of salt and pepper grinders
Good set of sharp knives in a block
Electric can opener (didn't ask for it but actually really value it now!)

We also got an 'everyday' dinner service but went for a nice one as we will be using it every day - this one: http://www.johnlewis.com/73362/Range.aspx got 12 of everything in case of breakages over the years. We did have to buy the extra pieces to get it up to a full set as people bought individual bits, but we also got JL vouchers so put them towards this.

Congrats on your forthcoming nuptials :D

um, gosh can't remember everything, ( got married 9 year's ago) we had just bought our first home 1 month after getting engaged and got alot of engagement and wedding pressies which were fantastic .( got married 10m after engagement)

i recived items such as breadmaker, diner service, saucepans, bedding , towels, loads of money and gift vouchers.little items such as oven mitts and oven and tableware dishes ( pyrex ones) were an absolute godsend and still have some now, which have survived 3 house moves and a clumsy me,lol

tbh i'd feel a little uncomfy at someone buying me a kenwood mixer or food processor as i know they can be expensive. but if it is something you want then maybe a few family memebers would be happy in clubbing together to buy it, as it will last ur whole married life from the reviews i've heard.

congrats on your wedding, enjoy every min of the day, as it really does fly by in the blink of an eye.
  • Am i the only person the doesnt agree with wedding gift lists?..I got one once(in the same envelope as the evening invitation)I was shocked to see things like kenwood, chef, silver cutlery and even a garden shed on it,seemed a bit greedy to me,hopefully there not all like this tho.

good knives - not a whole set but 3 good ones will see you for years - I love my wusthorf classic ikon.

Solid pans - again as for seperate ones rather than a set as this gives guests more options re how much they spend.

A good le crueset casserole dish, and if you have rich/ gnerous family a shallow 'buffet' on as well.

I get bored of bedding a towels so buy them myself in tk maxx and so can update them often without feeling guilty about not using a gift!

Wouldn't be without my kenwood chef - love love love it (bought mine myself), and 'stick' blender is fab too - we got one for a wedding pressie and it getsmore use then the food processor.

We also cheekily asked for a dualit toaster and were very lucky to get one - certainly something we would never have bought ourselves
