You will just have to take my word for it suky....if you want to pm me I can send you a copy of the email I got from Play.com about my bank stopping the payment
I will also send you a copy of the Information Commissioners Office letter when they send it....I informed them by phone yesterday and they will send me a letter to confirm their investigations....I can even send you the phone number of the chap in play.com security, but I won't do that just yet.
I have an internet business and I am really hot on internet security and I KNOW thay play.com know of this issue which has been going on for over a year
I was just googling play.com fraud and this site came in, that's the only reason I knew about this thread

I have no need to lie or decieve....it's a pity play don't follow the same line, they have known of this problem for ages and I heard that from Play.com themselves !

Sorry if I have doubted you but it seemed so strange. I have bought from Play for ages and no trouble but I won't be again thanks for the warning.

I don't know that I believe any of you to be honest perhaps I would have if you had been regular users but on the strength of your newbie status I can't .Play have always been excellent when I have used them and I have used them for years now. Apart from that fact, the ppl replying to you have posted so very little it leads me to be suspect that you are 1 and the same person..... my apologies if I have you wrong but it does look suspicious.

but this has been goin on for ages, did yu not scroll back? people who have been on here for ages have had these problems!

Is the DoB really a valid security check? I've never seen it used elsewhere and that's what prompted me to Google 'Play DoB' which lead me to this thread (sorry for the bump). My card expired last year and it seems that the DoB requirement is new(ish).

Well, after finding something at a price i couldn't resist on Play, i went into my account & changed the details back to the proper ones ordered it yesterday & it was dispatched today so i assume payment was taken as well...
This evening i changed my details again to avoid fraud & then get the following ....

    Dear Customer

Thank you for your recent order with www.play.com

At this time we are unable to process your order further as the card details you have entered appear to be incorrect and cannot be verified.

Please can you check you account and ensure that the following details have been entered correctly:

    Credit card number
    Valid and Expiry dates
Three digit security code (this can be found on the signature strip of your credit card)

We will then attempt to re-process your original order. You do not need to resubmit your order.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused to you in this matter and thank you for your patience and valued custom.

    Kind regards

    Play

Call your bank, see if money has gone from your account to pay for play and has cleared (it can be earmarked for a few days, sitting in nowhere land (in your account apparently but not yours to spend and not yet paid to the company its owed to) when your happy its all cleared then do nothing, if its been more then 5 days I'd say you owe play money and maybe need to re-do the card details. But speak to your bank, they may have more up to date info.

Recently recieved this email from orders @ play . com last night after placing an order:

Does anyone know if this is legit? I received this email last night, it seemed a bit dodgy so i phoned my bank and blocked my card. Phoned Play today a few times (none of them make much sense). The first lady said that this email sounded like it was from them, the second said eveyrthing was ok but when asked if they could confirm that they sent me this email they said there was no evidence of it being sent from play but she still said it was ok:think: so i came to the conclusion she was clueless. Then the third time i called they said that this email was not from them (he didnt recognise the email address).

Now im totally clueless, who to believe? When i phoned to block my card last night i asked the guy on whether or not money had been taken out of my account. He said that £2 had at around the same time i placed my order on Play.

Anyone have any advice on what i should do next? Is it safe to unblock my card? is my play account hacked? Is there anyone else i could talk to on play other than the useless tools ive been dealing with on the helpline?

    Thx.
