Play.com Fraud - warning

If you need as many people as possible to get Play.com onto Watchdog, i am in. It happened to me a year back for nearly £200. I had an email confirming my order for some XBox war games - i do not own an Xbox and i dont like war games!!! Play.com didnt really care but i did get my £££ back from my bank. Surely all the banks would see how many complaints of fraud they are getting from this company - would they not alert someone?0

They've confirmed no fraud on my account just poor wording of the emails.
They "tested" my card to confirm validity - which I've never given permission for
My account is now unsuspended and just needs valid details in order to purchase again should I ever choose to - this I'm happy with. Would order and then change details back again to invalid ones.
I'm still shocked about this "validation" procedure they seem to have..but no fraud on my account luckily - not that I have any cash or identity worth stealing to be fair!
pippitypipI know I'm in my own little world, but it's ok - they know me here!0 -
Interesting post have edited my card details!0

Thank god my card expired and i never updated the info on play after reading this thread 3 months ago.
One of those cop show's covered this type of crime last month and they waited for a TV to be delivered to a flat.
When it was delivered they went in and found that a single mum was being paid to take delivery and she agreed to help the City of London police so she called the number given to her and these two guys turned up and were arrested.
It took Ten police officers to carry out this operation , no wonder the police don't want to know about this type of crime if firms like PLAY.COM are sloppy with their security.
I know this crime is disgusting but we can help the police by staying away from firms like Play and let them deal with other crimes.0 -

That is even more of a worry.
The question would be why weren't you getting emails for all the fraudulent orders?
Most people that have posted got alerted because they received order and dispatch emails from Play for items that they never authroized.0 -

Which is odd. Why aren't the fraudsters changing the details fully? Why not alter the email address if they can get into accounts?
Clearly there is fraud here. But it's not of one type. Which is even more of a worry because, as my case shows, your own order history might show nothing unusual until you get the credit card charge. Then you find you have a "cloned account."0 -
Debit card details now changed.
Thanks for this warning :beer:0 -

One reason would be that if they set up a new email account the ISP provider would have details of where and when it was set up and the location of the computer used to create the account.
This would be much easier for the Police to track down and provide evidence if they were caught.
Leaving the email address alone is one less trail of evidence.0 -
so should they be called play.con0
