I know my account was only hacked for £35 but its £35 which should have been in my pocket! Ive not called the police on advise of the bank who said they will investigate but they also said it can take up to 10 weeks to get my money refunded!

The hacking was not my initial anger but it was the feeling this guy had invaded my privacy, he could have read my emails or anything if hes got into my computer.

Reading through some of these posts im thinking it must be an inside job because a previous poster said the police know about this guy in Northampton!

Im never going to use play.com again.

If anyone local feels like going here aswell...
    Delivery Address :
    Mr A Osis
    62 Chalcombe Avenue
    Northampton
    NN2 8LD
    United Kingdom

Feel free to kick him in the face lol (joke)

Im sure 99% of the people that use play.com are completely happy with the service. I know i was until this happened.

In hindsight...1% of play.com account holders is still ALOT of people who have had bad experiences

Myself and two other members of my family changed their credit card details to one of those test credit cards from PayPal. Today I got an email from Play saying:

"Thank you for your recent order with Play.com
At this time we are unable to process your order as your credit/debit card details do not match the details held by your card issuer.
To proceed with your order please check and amend the following:
    Card number
    Expiry date
    Valid from date
    Issue number
CV2 (3 digit code on the signature line of your credit card)
For PlayTrade item(s) your order could not be reserved and has been cancelled. If you would still like to purchase this item please resubmit your order following any amendments you have made.
For Play.com item(s) it is not necessary to re-submit your order. Your outstanding item(s) will be shipped as soon as we can process the payment."

Did anyone else get this email if you changed your credit card details to one of the test cards?

The other two members of my family didn't get the above email and they used the same test credit card.

Can I just point out that I got that email but only after I'd changed the false credit card info back to a valid one as I wanted to order a few things.
I'm not sure why I was sent that email seeing as it was a valid card, more importantly I don't see why you were sent the email if you didn't place an order.
  • Just a warning guys that Mr John Lewis of 1025a Romford Road is still on the prowl on Play.com

Managed to get into my account on the play.com server and order some very nice sandisk memory sticks.

Luckily I checked my emails and found the acknowledgement from play.com this am and spoke to them and cancelled the order before they were sent off.

The lass on the phone at play.com didnt sound all that surprised - this forum explains why!
  • The exact thing happened to me today. A play purchase made by my account with a shipping address of
    Mr A Osis
    62 Chalcombe Avenue.
I was shocked to see that so many people had had the same problem! Needless to say, I cancelled my card, changed my play.com password, called them to get them to remove my card details from the site (and they really weren't at all concerned) and will now report to the police as this is fraud. I may also drop a line to watchdog as play.com really should be doing something to protect their customers.

The police won't be interested. They changed the way online fraud is dealt with and now it is on the banks to go to the Police to start an investigation.

No wonder the fraudsters are happy to continue with the frauds knowing that the Police won't investigate.

I have just spoken to Play.com after I discovered that my account was still live, even though I had phoned on 04.03.09 to request my account be deleted.

Play tell me that policy is not to suspend accounts unless there has been a clear case of fraudulent activity. They say however, you can order online and then just simply delete the card number to prevent any problems. (sorry must have missed that bit as I could not find a way to permanently delete my card number with out entering a phoney one!)
Play stated to me that there is NO FRAUD happening due to account hacking. They stated that it was due to people's email accounts being hacked and account password reset emails being sent.

I told the rep from Play that they need to up their game and about this thread as well. She says that she will pass this on to the dedicated fraud team at Play.com

I was also informed this evening by the rep that they are not allowed to refund after a fraudulent transaction, it all has to be handled by the bank. Bank of Scotland for some reason are dragging their heels over refunds and so the fraud team are involved there as well, this might explain why there are delays in people getting a refund from the bank.
