Woah,play.com ! crazy.0

If you've been rippied off,did you go to the delivery addresses section to see if a new address had been input? I guess most crooks would have the sense to order then delete the address? It amazes me how uninterested people are in card fraud. The reason is of course that the only one who gets shafted is the card holder and unless he/she battles it out,it stays that way.0

This has just happened to me too, I got an email this morning confirming an order for xbox live vouchers and a PS3 game (5x orders of around £30)due to go to a "Mary" at an NW9 address. I cancelled the orders before payment went through and phoned customer services who have cancelled my account.
The advisor at Play also suggested I contact the police (which I will be doing soon, I've written a letter to pop into the local station), she said she was going to investigate some other orders on other people's accounts to the same address.MFiT-T2 challenge member #59

This is amazing to me. I have always used Play and have never had any problems with them, them and Amazon are pretty much the only sites I trust but all of these reports are making me quite paranoid, especially as I had my card cloned a few weeks ago and don't want to go through all of that drama again!
I assume that if I change my card number to one of PayPal's test numbers, my PlayFunds will still be okay? As I have about £80 in PlayFunds from selling various things through the site and a few preorders using those funds, I don't want to risk losing all of that.0 -
Just thought I'd add to this that I had exactly this problem yesterday. Six Playstation games ordered at midnight on my account to an Essex address. It's ridiculous Play can't stop the order when it's at the 'packing stage'!0

These funds may not be safe, since if they are unused the fraudster could use the funds to buy items, or cancel your pre-orders and reuse the funds to buy another item.
With all these posts it is evident that their system is compromised.
I would go and change your password for the account because assuming that the security breach is not ongoing and they have already obtained a list of passwords collected from the infilitration, then as long as they can't hack into Play again, changing your password should help prevent your account being hijacked.0 -
On Monday I logged into my email account to see that I had apparently ordered £139 worth of stuff (4 items at £39 each) from Play.com, which I HAD NOT ordered. I phoned Play.com to see what was going on and they said they had noticed it was fraudulent activity and had cancelled my account - but it was too late to stop the money coming out of my bank account and too late to stop the items being delivered (to an address in Dagenham, Essex NOT MY ADDRESS). At NO POINT did Play.com contact me - I had to contact them!!
I am now battling with my bank to try and get my money back - but this is not proving to be an east task. I was very interested to read the amount of similar posts on this forum and would very much like to hear more about how the individual cases are being handled.0 -
Just wanted to say thanks for the great post. I have noticed that whenever I make an iTunes purchase it freezes my cards so I assume there is some kind of fradulant activity going on with iTunes. The last time it happened, the bank said that they have a few incorrect charges that come up so it flags it up as an issue now on any account. If this play.com thing is widespread and it sounds like it is and certainly has the potential to be, then perhaps the card issuers will start to flag any charges up themselves...if enough people complain about fradulant activity I suspect that will kick in. So, if play.com are being useless, do not worry too much about complaining to your card issuer and feeling you are being ignored - it may take a while, but they (the card issuer) will take note and do something about it.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. i have changed my password & amended the stored credit card number as recommended
i noticed some fraudulant activity on my credit card not from (play.com )so have spoken to the fraud dept & got the card cancelled
it might be worth everyone else checking their statements & recent tranactions online or over the phone if you are worried
i tried to access my play account this evening & it has been suspended ( not at my request) the plot thickens"what lies behind us & what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" Ralph Waldo Emerson0 -
I had exactly the same thing happen to me four weeks ago. Someone hacked my account - ordered 5 copies of Resident Evil Five for xbox360.
This happened at 4pm on a Sunday ( time I received my email thanking me for my order). Couldn't ring Play.com Cust Services until 9am on Monday - by that time the order had been shipped.
By that time the money had been authorised on my debit card ( but not taken from my account) - touchwood, this money hasn't been taken from my account so Play.com perhaps stopped the order?
Items shipped to address in North London. Hacker couldn't have been especially bright, as if he/she had changed my email adddress at the same time I wouldn't have know about it!
Anyway, account at Play.com cancelled - will NEVER buy from them again.
(I run internet security software and two spyware programs, too)
