  • Totally agree HARZ.I wouldn't pay a tenner a night for the older type travelodges most of them stink have mould around the baths and scuffs and marks all over the walls and doors.Just checked out Edinburgh in July £150,£158 and £186 A NIGHT, for a poxy Travelodge are they having a larrff or what. You can get a 7 day fully inclusive in Spain for less than that
  • Also be careful when looking at some of the newer hotels as they are charging a car park fee,as though the rooms aren't dear enough.

Just stayed a couple of nights in Edinburgh Central Princes Street T/L. Clean, refurbished and quiet in the rooms facing away from Princes Street. Looking at another stay in October/November and all central Edinburgh are around £31-£35 per night at that time.

A couple of things that have changed are; T/L now offer 30 minutes free internet per day of stay which seems to only be a one time log on daily irrespective of whether you use one minute or the full thirty. Secondly T/L are trialling 30ml bottles of liquid hand/hair/body wash by Admiral cleaning supplies instead of soap, with a view to changing to the same product on wall dispensers. So if like me you prefer soap, and separate shampoo, bring your own!

I was wondering why the prices were so high during July and had forgot about the Commonwealth games but £150 a night is ludicrous by any standards. As Harz says there are some really good deals closer to christmas in Edinburgh £21/£22 a night that is excellent value. So you lose sometimes but gain on others.Just had a night at York Micklegate, again good value £30 as it is bang in the centre.Could be noisy as you get a load of Stag and Hen nights walking down Micklegate after been on the razz, but you are only 100yds away from a Wetherspoons and if you aint done it before you have to do the full city walls walk. The real cheap bargains aren't there anymore but £20/£30 a night is still good for a family of 4 in one room, especially in City centres like Edinburgh and York.:T

Yes, I have just booked one of the Edinburgh Travelodges for a 3 night trip to the Commonwealth Games as the prices everywhere in Glasgow were just ridiculous. I really don't care how basic they are as it will just be somewhere to sleep. I've also booked a flexible rate so in the unlikely event that prices in Glasgow fall then I will be able to cancel the reservation.

    Try Lisbon 24th May.
There is a kickball match & 4 figs for a hotel is the new normal.
One I use that normally costs €40/night is €4,500.

Quite a contrast to my 3 nights in a Travelodge booked for later this year, £78 in total.

£4,500! For a hotel similar to Travelodge? I am staying in Travelodge Gatwick Central tomorrow night. It claims to have been refurbished since I was last there. I shall see. Wanted Premier Inn but couldn't book the saver price until i had the final holiday details. By then it had increased to £80.

This one http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g189158-d1396141-Reviews-Hotel_Dom_Afonso_Henriques-Lisbon_Estremadura.html (Euros not pounds, sorry)

A night in June showed as £39 a few mins ago.
It is now full for May 24th, but I posted the 4,500 rate on another forum. (it was not the only hotel showing lunatic prices, most were over £1,000).

This is what I found & posted on another forum earlier this week:

I read an article in today's paper about the new boss at Travelodge. Apparently they're spending loads on refurbishment and really trying hard to compete with Premier Inn.

I've always been a fan of the TL sale rooms but I'm going to Bristol soon for a festival and have booked one of the Premier Inn as I got it for £29 each night which for location, quality and extras like the fact they will store bags for you before and after check in/out and a comfy bed I'm much happier than TL.

In past years the TL in Bristol have left a lot to be desired - Mitchell Lane one is ok but even there I had trouble with rowdy guests and its a fair walk back at night when your a single female.

The Anchor road one was even worse - my visit there put me off staying there again - did not feel safe and do not want to see the staff treated like that again by other guests.

So I'm sticking with Premier Inn or Ibis for my annual trip to Bristol.

I have booked Covent garden in August with TL as £35 for central London is good - but the Saturday I wanted was £135 and the £35 is for the Sunday which I know use to be from £9.
