thegoodman wrote:Or you can also try BarclayCard available to new comes with the credit limit of upto £2000 which shuld cover your trip.
Check the site below for more information:

The only problem with the Barclaycard Intial is that the rates are very high. If you can't afford to pay for your trip all at once, it will cost you a fortune in interest. Who do you bank with Russ1? Do they have a card with 0% for purchases?0 -
My thoughts exactly. It all depends on what's meant by "the following weeks"
If you intend to clear the balance shown on your monthly statement by the payment due date around 25 days later, Barclaycard Initial is ideal for someone looking for their first credit card. If not, I would see what your bank can offer.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
Just been on the dog'n'bone to MorganStanley's customer service centre about the 3% cashback offer on the credit card until 1 Jan.
"New customers onleeee!" What a surprise. Not! :mad:0 -
Most of us here know how that feels. There's only one cure!

tfdodo wrote:As per posts 26 / 113 / 114 above, I am 100% confident that on my application I instructed the direct debit to take 'full amount'. I had read post 36 when I applied so paid attention to it. Checked my second statement recently and - surprise ! The d/d had been set up, contrary to my instructions, for minimum repayment only.
Sent secure message complaining about this, and received a reasonably prompt reply saying "unable to offer you a refund for the interest...due to the fact that your Direct Debit was set up to call for the minimum payment". Which kind of misses the point (I can SEE that it WAS set up like this, the point is whether I INSTRUCTED them to set it up like this...).
Phoned them today, spoke to someone who actually pulled their (electronic) copy of my application, and stated that according to that I had requested Minimum payment. As above, I am absolutely confident that this was not the case. I persisted and she offered to repay my interest as a gesture of goodwill (good on Egg).
But it seems likely that the Egg application software may have an intermittent "feature", so if you have opened an Egg account and instructed them to set up 'full amount' direct debit then CHECK IT !
Received my Egg Money card this morning, telephoned them to check that Direct Debit was set up correctly (full amount to be paid off each month) and lo and behold - "Its set up for the minimum payment each month Sir!"
Thanks guys for the advice as the first I would have noticed this was when they tried to charge me interest.0 -
Hi blackfritz
Welcome to the credit card board!
Thanks for your feedback, which helps alert others. MSEs have posted on this quirk in Egg's system for at least 8 months now.
Egg Money has some commendable features and many like Egg Money Manager, but customer service seems to have deteriorated.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -

The one rule I always follow is when ever I change the credit card, current account or anything else is to keep an eye on the account for eight weeks. By doing this I have managed to pick up a lot of mistakes made by banks or credit card companies such as wrong direct debit numbers or the card account is set to take the minimum payment and not the full amount. This way you can telephone the bank as soon as you know about the mistake and get it corrected.0 -
I too got an Egg Money Card on the recommendation of Martin Lewis. I recently went to pay for some items at Ikea and was told there was an excess for using a credit card. The check-out told me it was also common practice at Tesco but that they do not inform you (I do not know if this is true) There is also an extra charge with Easyjet.
How many more companies charge extra for using a credit card and does this defeat the simple action of using the Egg card at all times.0 -

I had an Egg Card for their 0% interest for 6months and set it up to start paying in full at the beginning of the 6th month. I was too late and they took the minimum and I was hit for interest which was v annoying as I always pay balances in full.
I took out an Egg Money card for their cash back with a lowish limit (£700) with a dd set up to pay balance in full each month. As I average between £300-500 per month I was staggered to find I had a £16.00 overlimit charge...grr I phoned to ask why, they suggested a petrol station had accepted it when I was already at my limit. Actually it is more likely to be caused by the whacky time of statements and payments due...I honestly can't tell. I only spent approx £490 between those payments. They refuse to refund the charge. Their statements are extremely confusing. I'm cutting my losses with this company- I just don't seem to have the brains for it. (My finances ran very smoothly in the old days with paper statements!- and If I ever was late with a payment they often waived their fee as I was a loyal customer)0
