As per posts 26 / 113 / 114 above, I am 100% confident that on my application I instructed the direct debit to take 'full amount'. I had read post 36 when I applied so paid attention to it. Checked my second statement recently and - surprise ! The d/d had been set up, contrary to my instructions, for minimum repayment only.
Sent secure message complaining about this, and received a reasonably prompt reply saying "unable to offer you a refund for the interest...due to the fact that your Direct Debit was set up to call for the minimum payment". Which kind of misses the point (I can SEE that it WAS set up like this, the point is whether I INSTRUCTED them to set it up like this...).
Phoned them today, spoke to someone who actually pulled their (electronic) copy of my application, and stated that according to that I had requested Minimum payment. As above, I am absolutely confident that this was not the case. I persisted and she offered to repay my interest as a gesture of goodwill (good on Egg).
But it seems likely that the Egg application software may have an intermittent "feature", so if you have opened an Egg account and instructed them to set up 'full amount' direct debit then CHECK IT !0 -
Thank you, Martin, for that. Sorry I appear to have posted the message twice. However, having only just got the GE Money card and their letter says "congratulations on being one of the first in the UK to own this card" I do wonder if you are referring to a previous GE Card the first four digits of which were 5413. The new one starts with 5206
Nope it looks like it was only effectively a trial - and isn't being offered to any new customers.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

I have a high credit rating (I checked with Experian and obtained my credit report). Earn a good wage and have no debt other than my mortgage. I always pay off my cards in full each month. I have never missed a payment for anything in my life
I have never been refused anything in my life!
GE wont tell me why...
They turned down my request for a GE Money card and I have a good record and no debt. But I do pay off our cards (they're in my name) in full each month (but not the zero % interest transfer) so perhaps I don't look like a source of profit for them.
So my wife applied and got one. Now she'll request one in my name too.
Why couldn't I get one? It doesn't matter - we've achieved what we wanted, 3% cash back on food and petrol. Can't be bad.To do is to be (Jean Jaques Rousseau)

GE Money Mastercard .... argghh!! Suggest you don't touch it with the proverbial bargepole. You will spend more money on your phone bill ("we are sorry that all our associates are busy") than you earn in cashback. They try to get you do this on an 0870 number too!
I've had the card for a week. Had to call 3 times to change the PIN (yes, I know you're supposed to be able to do this at the ATM, but it didn't work). Also had to call today to set up the direct debit to pay the account. They don't seem to have any on-line facilities at all.
Overall verdict?? Painful.
Hubby has applied for one as well... on a separate account (so that we get 2 sets of cash-back on £5K). Fingers crossed that his account goes better than mine.....0 -
This is why I recommend Morgan Stanley's cashback cards.
You can manage your account online. MSDW also accepts payments by phone so if your PC goes down, you can still settle the bill quickly in the comfort of your own home, using the automated telephone system. There's a Freefone number for this and for those occasions when you need to speak to a human being. Cashback's not as good as the current GE Money rate, but well worth considering IMO, if good customer service is important to you.
The Morgan Stanley platinum card pays 1% on all spending up to the first £2,000 a year and 0.5% after that. Currently, the introductory rate is 3% cashback on all spending up to £2,000.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
How long does it take for them to tell you if you are approved or not? I applied online earlier this week and the response has been deafening! Not a sausage.0

I have given up on GE now. After taking 4 weeks to send the first card, so it was cancelled after they assumed it was lost in the post. The second card they sent was attached to the wrong account (the one with a balance transfer low rate instead of the cashback) so that is being cancelled. I called them up to advise it was the wrong account and they agreed it was and would send another card.
That was 6 weeks ago and I am still waiting. Don't really think I want a card from them now as I hate to think how it would be managed.MFIT No. 810 -
Thanks for your feedback, Redbedhead
You're not alone. 'Sounds as though GE Money is flooded with applications and can't cope, yet there's no guarantee that 3% cashback rate will last.
Btw, in 10 years of credit card shuffling with more than 30 cards (not all at once of course), I've found Morgan Stanley's customer service hard to beat.
In 8 years of continual use, I've never had a moment's anxiety with my MSDW platinum cashback card.
Currently, the introductory rate for new customers is 3% cashback on all spending up to £2,000.People who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0 -
The i24 card is also not bad from Moran Stanley (https://www.i24card.co.uk). You get a flat 1% cashback bonus without limit. Unlike Amex it is mastercard so can be used at most shops.0

It does have a whopping great Annual fee of £275. You'd be much better off getting an Egg Money card (Also Mastercard. Also 1%).
It also says 1% of all purchases (up to your Credit Limit) per year -- if I had a credit limit of, say, £1,000 would I only get cashback on up to a £1k annual spend?0
