Jap200 - the reason you shouldnt use it when your on your period is because your body is more sensitive to pain during that time, thats the only reason, not anything else. Also I don't understand why it cant be used on the face if you wear eye protection. I first had IPL 9 years ago and I can't imagine this machine is any more powerful than the salon types.

Yes - probably true about the pain thing during a period, but having given birth 3 times.......it's all relative!

Haven't had a chance to try it on the face yet. It did occur to me that as I ususally wax or tweeze there is virtually nothing visible at any one time and I would have to 'let it grow' in order to treat it. Will have to think about that.
  • Hey Jap200!

Sorry I missed your post asking about why you shouldn't use it on your period. :embarasse All ebayed Out is right though, it's cos you feel it more, but then again with 3 kids you're probably not even going to flinch!! :rotfl:

I find that using plenty of the gel is a good way of keeping track of which bits you've done as the machine head leaves little imprints on the gel.

Rebel of not, I don't think I'd use it on my face  . At least not until it's been proven to work on it. Best to stay safe hun.

Having talked to the sales assistant, I am tempted to try it out on my chin - even though it says not to - I'm that sort of rebel! If I do, I will let you know what happens.

You are absolutely not alone with this problem if it's any consolation to you. My sisters and I have all developed this problem as we have got older. From what I understand about IPL, it works best on thicker, dark hairs, but not on fine 'velous' hairs. If the problem you are describing is the appearance of coarse bristle-type hairs, then it would seem to me that the Boots IPL should work well. I can't see what possible safety issues there would be except for the possiblity of the bright light hurting your eyes.

I haven't tried it on my face yet, but I am planning a test patch, with some kind of eye protection. If it works I will be over the moon!
  • guys can anyone tell me if it works on men? for like chest, stomach and legs? i have olive mediterranean skin and dark hairs....

Just got mine this morning. After spending over £1000 at the salon having laser treatment on my hairs, I thought this would be a bargain if it works. I did the patch test about 3 hours ago, no irritation yet which is good. Will do a patch test on my face tomorrow.

Something that I noticed after doing the patch test, which I am quite happy about, was the slight burning smell from my hairs. When I was having the laser treatment done at the salon, according to the salon girl, this smell meant that the laser was working.

The only thing I was slightly disapointed with, was that the 'head' only lasts for 10,000 shots, and given my hairyness I'll probaly need about 5 of them..... Anyone read anywhere about how much they will cost?

Just in case anyone else wants to know, Boots said it will cost approximately £50 to get the light replaced once it stops working after 10,000 pulses.

    Few posts up. :D

FelinePrincess, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by:

"...is it likely they might grow back to light to continue treating?"

Lemme know when you get a sec. I might just be a little bit ditzy today!

Sorry, I really should proof read my posts before posting! This is what I meant:
i think she means "...is it likely they might grow back too light to continue treating?" ie could you just be left with light hair instead of dark hair (which would be an improvement, but a bit disappointing!)

Have you seen any results yet?

  • No worries! Happens to me all the time... thankfully wishiwasarichgirl translated ;)

I did my third session earlier this evening and I think (although it might be wishful thinking at this stage) that my hair is growing slower. Not sure though. Gonna have to wait and see.

Apart from that no change. But it says it takes betweem 6-12 weeks to see results.
