You're obviously experiencing the same result as me, WotW. Very frustrating, isn't it!

Please do post back about how you get on. I've subscribed to this thread as I'm interested to see how it works for others on a long-term basis.

Wishing you better luck than I had!

Me too. I'm disappointed in mine, the hair did grow slower but it has now grown back and I would say there's no difference before than now. It's a lot of money to have spent for it to be ineffective. :(
Life is a coin, you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once.
Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you'll see further.
Take time but don't waste time

I'm sorry to hear that, asset. It's very disappointing for something that was pretty expensive, isn't it.

Hi from a Noobie member! , I saw the BSS in Boots this morning and have been avidly reading up on the various testimonies. Sounds fab! Am really tempted to buy one, but I have polycystic ovaries, and according to the website, is a no-no for us PCOS sufferers. (Boo) Does anyone know why this would be? Or any PCOS sufferers using it without any reaction?

If you look back to about page 2 there is a link to a Handbag thread discussing this machine where a woman with PCOS and other medical problems as well which caused her to be hirsute so she decided to try this out, on a risk/benefit ratio basis. It is a very touching post where she explains all the heart rending issues faced by hairy faced and bodied women, nearly made me cry. She decided, despite PCOS to use the machine and also to use it, though following eye precautions, on her face. xx
  • Hi all - I have a Boots Smooth Skin IPL and have been using it since Christmas. I had considered professional treatment but it is quite expensive and let's face it we all have a few areas that we wouldn't ask another human-being to tend to!!! So my hubby got me one for Christmas.

I am the ideal skin/hair type for the system - fair skinned with dark hair. I have followed the instructions very carefully and they are fairly accurate.

You can use it once a week (no more) on each area. Small areas are quick and simple to do and there is an almost complete 'reduction' in some areas after 4-6 treatements.

More dense areas take longer. I have enlisted my husbands help to get some of the more awkward areas, but it is doable on your own. My one piece of strong advice is, as per the instructions, keep the gel in the fridge, use PLENTY and when you've been treating for a while prepare for it to be uncomfortable! It feels like a little hot, electric-shock, but it is only momentary and more irritating than agonising! The aftermath is not bad either. The skin will feel a little delicate but I have experienced nothing worse than very, very moderate redness for a few hours. I tend to do it before bed and you wake up fine the next day.

I would not say I am there yet. You have to wait at least 6-9 weeks to get the full growth pattern anyway - but it does work and I am expecting that by the 12 treatments mentioned, I will be pretty much there.

So there you go - if you do have £250 (on add another £20 in for gel all told) and plenty of grooming-hours and patience at your disposal then go for it!

  • Hi, id like to just state some facts on here which i feel may dismay some people but needs to be said.

Firstly - these products say Permanent Hair reduction/loss! This does not mean use this product and be hair free for life! It means if you use this product for say 12 weeks then the hair regrowth is expected to be slower than it previously would be over a 12 week period! The way the products are worded is for sales reason.

Even at the Salons the "permanent " hair loss means the hair will grow back! The only way to completely kill the hair is electrolysis!!!!!!!!

It is misleading but is agreed terminology in the industry.

Varying Salon use between IPL & Lazer will deliver the best results! And by this i mean the hair will take much longer to regrow!

Apologies but these are the facts! If anyone has any questions then please feel free to message me

Gawd, calm down! I think after 12 months and 32 pages of thread on here, people can make up there own minds by now.
    Whether we win or lose,
that we played at all was a winning decision. :D

  • eerrrmmm how many people are reading every page on this thread???33 pages!!! If they are then they must be very desperate for permanent hair removal and i dont think telling them the FACT that it will not be the PERMANENT hair loss they expect is a bad thing to state.

If someone has a very hair part of their body then 2-3 treatments at a good hair removal clinic on their Lazer/IPL machine will be vastly more effective than any of the current home IPL's.

Hairspec.........Personally I don't care about using my salon any longer after purchasing this product. I was using IPL since 2001 in the salon for top-up treatments & now Its not necessary to spend £100 per appointment.

Maybe this is the problem, that people are no longer using salons. For the price of a package treating ONE small area in the salon, I could BUY another Smooth Skin machine.

My wife and I bought smooth skin having previously had successful salon treatment on the legs and armpits, but did not like the idea of a "stranger" for the Hollywood wax that we wanted.

We are delighted with the results. On a medium setting (as fair was stinging too much) it has taken 12 regular treatments to be almost completely hair free. We have followed the instructions as precisely as we could, in particular finding the soothing gel very helpful for both reducing discomfort as well as helping to see which area has been treated. The area was thoroughly (dry) shaved beforehand - energy is lost if the hair is not as short as possible. Extreme care has been taken with the more delicate areas and we have had no adverse reactions whatsoever.

Each session has taken no more than 15 minutes, but it did take six sessions for a noticeable reduction to be obvious.

We anticipate that regular top up sessions will be needed in the future but, of course, this is much preferable to the need to shave on a regular basis.

We can't recommend this system enough but do feel that the instructions need to be followed precisely.
