My wife and I bought smooth skin having previously had successful salon treatment on the legs and armpits, but did not like the idea of a "stranger" for the Hollywood wax that we wanted.

We are delighted with the results. On a medium setting (as fair was stinging too much) it has taken 12 regular treatments to be almost completely hair free. We have followed the instructions as precisely as we could, in particular finding the soothing gel very helpful for both reducing discomfort as well as helping to see which area has been treated. The area was thoroughly (dry) shaved beforehand - energy is lost if the hair is not as short as possible. Extreme care has been taken with the more delicate areas and we have had no adverse reactions whatsoever.

Each session has taken no more than 15 minutes, but it did take six sessions for a noticeable reduction to be obvious.

We anticipate that regular top up sessions will be needed in the future but, of course, this is much preferable to the need to shave on a regular basis.

We can't recommend this system enough but do feel that the instructions need to be followed precisely.

good stuff! I think the way you are using the Boots Smooth Skin and the results you expect is excellent. MY points on the home IPL's was that it appears a number of people who have posted think that after 12 weeks they will be hair free for life!

I see that Amazon has reviews on similar machines, the Philips Lumea and Remington i-light. I'm still ploughing on with the Boots machine but it will be very interesting to see reviews of these other ones too.
  • Hi,
I'm really interested in buying one of Boot's ipulse hair removers but I'm confused. I've had laser hair removal at a sk:n clinic and it significantly reduced the hair but I still need more and I'm not prepared to pay £400 for it. However, they tell you at the clinics that you have to have a session every 6 weeks as that is the full cycle of the hair growth, so how can the Boots system be affective if you do it every week? Surely you're just zapping the same hair time and time again?
Also, does anyone know if you can pay for the system partly with points?
    Thanks.

Can't answer the first question but the second, you cannpt pay partially in points for anything, it has to be fully with points or not paid by points, they don't do half and half.

I think with the Boots system you're just more likely to catch new hair growth at a slightly earlier stage if you do it weekly. And I'm sure if the clinics could encourage clients to come in weekly and spend a few hundred pounds each time they would be more than happy. Of course the clinics use higher powered equipment so that may be a factor in having to wait longer for the skin to recover between sessions.
  • Once I got refused a treatment from the salon, I arrived for the appointment and it was within 12 weeks from the last treatment, the lady said she didn't want me wasting my money. I was annoyed as I had just had an extreamly stressful couple of months and needed the treatment doing then.

Does the stress hormone cortisol effect hair growth?

I just did my armpit for the first time and ouch! It can be quite sore in some places can't it!! I started off on fair, but changed to medium after a while as it was hurting quite a bit. When I did the test patch on fair a couple of weeks ago I didn't feel anything at all (well, there was a tiny sensation) - I am hovering around that time of the month though so that could have affected it.

I will keep you updated on how it is going anyway. I was in two minds whether to send the boots smooth skin back as I was worried how it would affect my vitiligo. However, I have decided to give it a go, cautiously doing small areas at a time because I have exhausted all other hair removal techniques!

Never knew about this! Just had my patch test earlier this week at a laser clinic and paid for 6 treatments. Ah well, done with! :)

From my experience, you should achieve a better, longer-lasting result from a salon. So I don't think you've wasted any money. Mind you, I really didn't get very good results with the Smooth Skin - not anything like as good as with the salon laser (which is obviously much stronger than an at home treatment).

Best of luck! Salon treatment was an excellent investment for me. My lower legs are still practically hair-free 4 years on.
  • An update from me. I have been using this now for 5 weeks on my right side so I can compair the difference.

There is a really noticable difference on my armpits. Its not hair free, but looking in a mirror at both underarms there is at least 50% less hair.

I have been using it on my lower legs for months, and I have to say the hair on my left leg has not got noticably hairier - there are still plently of hair free areas and the hair is still soft and fine. I was worried it would grow back really quickly.

Ill update later on biki line as have have only been shaving one side (sorry if its too much info).
