has this worked? is it worth getting?

I bought one last year and, after many long, boring, uncomfortable hours, using the machine as instructed, but for 15 sessions instead of the recommended 12, I gave up with it.

Towards the end, I experienced an approximate 30% reduction in hair, but it all grew back after 2 or 3 months afterwards. Whereas 6 salon sessions on my lower legs achieved about a 95% reduction in hair, which has remained 4 years later.

I'll be going back to the salon to have my underarms and bikini line done there. Salon treatment has proven to be a great deal more effective for me and a heck of a lot less hassle.

I wonder if anyone else has experienced similarly disappointing results, or have I just been unlucky?
  • I got to take it back, the flashing lights does mean its fautly. Even better the one I exchaged for came in a pretty white case AND a free bottle of gel :money:

Has anyone with red hair tried this with any success? I've read on the boots website that it's not suitable for red hair, but thought it may be worth a shot anyway.

Was just thinking about starting up with this again today...I used it on Bikini line and it was quite effective...hair was growing slower, I don't think I got anymore than 7/8 weeks into it, but that area had become v patchy, and no ingrown hairs etc which I loved, so going to start up before it gets sunny again.

but....I've just been on the boots website, remember all those murmurs of £50 / £99 for a new handset...it is now on the website for £159.99! Can't believe it...I almost feel you may as well buy a whole new set for that prize, feels like a bit of a swizz! Luckily I don't need one yet, as I've been working on fairly small areas, and didnt do the 12 wks.

I can only find it for £249.99. Where have you seen it for £159.99!

I am starting to wonder if I will get any REAL results. I have noticed a reduction in hair, and the hair is definatly growing back finer, but I have been using this for ages! I havnt taken an exact note but I have done at least 16 sessions.

I am now going to consentrate on only my left side (left lower leg, bikini and armpit) so I can see the difference (if any) the machiene makes.

I have been to a salon and had two sessions on my bikini but the results didnt show at all - I know its only two session, but I went out and bought the Boots machiene to save money.

I will report back to let you know.

No this isnt for the full BSS just the replacement handset...for when your first one's bulb runs out of it's 10,000 flashes...

That is REALLY expensive, especially because it takes so many sessions to make any difference. Its far more that the 12 sessions they say. I am almost certain that I will need to get a replacement head in order to become hair-free ish.

But I am also wondering if it would be worth it. After all it wont (I assume) extend the warranty on the actual machiene, so this could pack up a month after spashing on the repacement head. I'm not sure if it would be worth the risk.

You're obviously experiencing the same result as me, WotW. Very frustrating, isn't it!

Please do post back about how you get on. I've subscribed to this thread as I'm interested to see how it works for others on a long-term basis.

Wishing you better luck than I had!

I think I might actually be seeing some results on my chin!!FINALLY. Been battling and plucking since last May. Since last plucking session 5-6 weeks ago I have only seen about 1/4-1/2 of the hair regrow. And some of it that has is blond although not fine :-( Still any result its better than none. Maybe better since I started using fine instead of dark on my face. Hair just seems to be "falling out" of my arm pits. When I have a good old scratch sometimes I notice hair under my finger nails where it has come out. Sorry tmi!! Will keep you all posted!! ...

Well I bit the bullet and bought one of these last night. I'm under no illusion that this is going to make me permanently hair free, I know that I will probably have to do "top ups" every month or so but as I am planning to treat my bikini line and underarms, I can live with that as it won't be very time consuming.

I read through the booklet last night anyway, and did a small test patch. I tested it on medium, although really I think I am fair but wanted to be cautious at first! It felt fine, no pain really, just a tiny feeling like a pin !!!!! (but a gentle one). I got quite a shock at how bright the light was too! I don't know what I was expecting!!

Anyway, I was wondering, has anyone used this who has an underactive thyroid or vitiligo? I have both... so technically I shouldn't be using it according to the long list of "DO NOT USE IF" but I am guessing they are being a bit overly cautious? The areas I am treating already have vitiligo patches (my underarms are pretty much devoid of pigment) so it's not going to make anything worse. Also, I know that often people with vitiligo have white hair growing where their white skin patches are, but this isn't the case for me - so essentially it is black hair on white as white can be skin - should be perfect right?!
