  • Binkyb, It is IPL like BSB and what they say is that you repeat treatments every 12 weeks when hair grows back and eventually it is permanent reduction, this is how I understand it (if any home laser can be permanent)

I think it is stronger if it leaves you hair less for 12 weeks instead of treating same area every week with BSS

I had about 30 ipl salon treatments over few years but It didn't seem to work well on me and I lost hope I would ever got rid of this problem.I am probably one of those people who don't respond well. I think hair free for 12 weeks is a really good option if nothing works. Do you think it is OK to use it on face despite the fact it is not recommended?

I am finding the boots one good for about 3 weeks then I have to go and use it all over again for another 12 weeks to be come hair free for another 3 weeks ... it's becoming an endless pain the !!!! cycle. I feel my little heart dip into my boots when I feel that stubble coming back through. As for people who say the hair is finer ... they must just be lucky ...

My hair has defiantly got finer. Before if I ever shaved my hair would get thick really quickly, so I waxed which meant the hair growing back would get finer - but sometimes I wanted that lovely silky feeling from shaving, which meant very think hair and stubble.

I havent got hair free yet - just patches! So maybe you are lucky to be hair free for a while - even if its only 3 weeks.

I have been using it for ages - for nearly 6 months!. On my lower legs and binki but it takes so long to do each session. I keep meaning to start on my upper legs, but I am trying to get my lower leg hair free first.

I think the hairs growing cycle is a year - so I will keep going for a bit longer.

Totally agreee. Not only does it take a lot of time (like half an afternoon for me lol) but it being so cold, you just don't feel like u want to slap on a load of cold gel and be still for so long.
I really need to get back into it and stop being so laaaazy!:o
    Whether we win or lose,
that we played at all was a winning decision. :D
    2011 wins £12,292
    2012 wins ...
Thank you to all who post on here!!!! :A

Don't have a hair remover set myself but leart this from a gyno: leave gels and creams on the top of a radiator until warmed up, then apply- far nicer, far easier!
  • Has anyone from an asian (pakistani, indian, bangladeshi) descent with dark to tan skin bought the Boots Smooth Skin.
I know it is not recommended however I am interested in finding just encase someone has.

If so how did your skin reacted?
    Have you seen good results?
What have the results been like?

I am very interested in the Boots Smooth Skin home IPL hair reduction however I am of bangladeshi decent with tan skin and dark hair.

    Many Thanks

jenniewb, Boots recommends putting the gel in the fridge, to help keep the skin cool during treatment!

    Ouch!

I couldn't do that personally! take my hat of to anyone who can!

I have an epilator, I apply a warmed cream to begin with (your not supposed to but I find it helps) either a Lush massage bar or a body cream warmed up on the radiator. Then after using the epilator I apply an ice pack- stroke it over the area I've pinched at. I don't think I could manage to apply a cold cream and I've read that for plucking and shaving hair, warmed up skin is easier to remove hair from- but if you guys are advised to use cold cold cold cream then I guess thats the better option.
  • Well, I am going to try the warmed up gel next time. I have not been using it from the fridge as I dont find the need to 'cool' my legs off afterwards. When its cold I actually sit right next to the heater when doing it anyway.

The good thing is that at least the gel washes out of clothes easily unlike the hair removing creams so I always wrap up as best I can in cold weather.

Yes, it is annoying that the price went up. I want to buy home IPL but can't decide between Boots smooth Skin and Remington I-light. The problem is I can't find any reviews of Remington one as it is new on the market I think. It is at £293 and seems to be much faster and efficient ,after 3-4 treatments you should be hair free for up to 12 weeks. Has any one tried it- does it work??? one of my concerns is using it on facial hair as it is not recomended but I noticed that some people from this forum used boots one and it was fine (despite the older model wasn't recomended on facial hair). I really don't know which one to go for....

The Boots system produces almost twice as much energy on its highest setting, 10 joules/cm2 against 6 joules/cm2 for the Remington. Generally speaking (in hair removal) more energy is a good thing if your skin can take it without burning. Professional systems use higher energy still (up to 20 joules/cm2). It could be that Remington is overly optimistic in their sales pitch, or maybe their multi flash at lower power does a better job. FWIW I would choose Boots.

I pluck the hair. As I had used this for wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey over the 12 weeks with no real difference at all on my chin area. (between beginning of May-beginning of Septemeber) So I took to plucking. Lasted 3 weeks then it grew back but was still thick stubble so back to the shaving IPL. Have to be honest and say i'm totally sick of it now :o

It's comments like this and me knowing how boring it is that is stopping me fron starting ob my legs  lol.

I have done chin and neck, nipples, under arms and the line down my tummy. Under arms is patches only. Nipples responded well mostly all gone just the odd few. Chin hair oddly responded better one side to the other ... one side is reduced the other just seems to keep growing and may have even got worse ... arm pits patches only not convined i'm going to get any where with this. And so far tummy area much reduced from week 1 and only growing back extremely slowly. So for me it appears to be very hit and miss. I am now using it on only the fair setting on all skin.
