Anyone tried Boots 'Smooth Skin' home IPL hair reduction system yet?

Hi, I just thought that I would let you know that BSS really does work.
I had IPL years ago, but didn't complete the sessions due to falling pregnant. I was saving to have it done again and then found the Boots IPL system. I am soooo pleased with it. I had a massive reduction in re-growth after just one go. I am using it on my face, underarms, legs, arms and bikini line (my bikini line hasn't grown back at all!!). If i used a salon to treat all of those areas it would cost thousands of pounds, so I am very happy.
I understand that replacement heads cost £150, but even if i had to buy one a year, it would still be worth it to me, as i spend that much on razors, lotions and potions to deal with hair removal.
I am fair skinned and have dark hair.
I have one warning though - I used it on the top setting over a dark freckle on my arm (without thinking) and it did get burnt.
The system isn't as powerful as the salon treatment, but it is powerful enough for me.0 -
Hi every1. Iv just ordered my BSS and i cant wait for it to arrive in the post. Want it mainly for my bikini line and im hoping for a good (even if not completely permanent result). My skin is white really pale actually and my hair is black so if it doesn't work for me then this thing is a real loser.
But fingers crossed i'll be patchy or even bald in the next few months. I'll update as to how i get on.
Also can anyone recommend a cheap electric razor as i dont want to do a close wet shave on areas i want to treat. Bit skint after forking out £250 for this thing. For me that is a hell of a lot and i decided it could be my xmas and birthday present to myself combined.:A0 -
I know this is not the right place to post this however I am new to posting and have no idea how to create a new thread.
I have unwanted hair on my face, arms and legs and would like some advice. I have dark skin (Bangladeshi) and dark hair. There are different methods out there but I am not sure which one is best for my skin type, below are some of the methods I am interested in using on my face and underarms but not sure which.
Laser hair removal
IPL hair removal
I would like to try the IPL home treatments as it is a cheaper option but I think I might have the wrong skin tone for it.
I have been using nads on my arms and legs and although the hair has reduced over the years, I am getting very tired of the process and would like to speed things up a little.
I also noticed that nads was effective on my cousin then it has been on me in terms of hair reduction.
If you know any other methods that is more effective, I would really appreciate it if you can let me know.
Many thanks in advance.

So i got my BSS today and was really excited. The box was really heavy and i found it hard to get my machine out of the white vanity case.
I was ready to try it out immediately.
To my suprise my skin type was II or 2 (if that makes sense). My hair is black.
I put it on dark to start off on a random spot on my tummy and held my breath while i pressed the button. It flashed but to my suprise i didnt feel anything. The flash is quite pleasant actually if you close your eyes, it looks like its red. If you look straight at the handset when you flash it you feel like you've been blinded for a few seconds. I wasn't blinded though like you know properly blinded, just dazzled.
So anyway i couldnt be bothered waiting 48 hours for a patch test as i had no obvious immediate reaction. So i put it on to medium and did my forearms after putting white pencil on my freckles. It did start to hurt when the handset got hot but its so instanteous that its very bearable. I think its also maybes because my arms still are darker than the rest of me from being very tanned last summer.
I also did my hands and fingers on the dark setting and the fine dark vellous hairs down the centre of my chest on medium. They are hardly noticeable but i'd like to zap them away anyway. I didnt shave these vellous hairs as they are very short and zapping this area on medium setting was painless, just a slight feeling of heat.
So obviously there is no immediate result, annoyingly i'll have to wait weeks for that but im still excited and am gonna zap away at other areas tomorrow.
I will update faithfully for anyone who may be interested in my results.
Also my machine seems to be working perfectly and looks in perfect condition but i can smell a faint smell of burning plastic when i use it. Does anyone know if i should be concerned about this?:p0 -
For those of you that have fair skin and black hair: is your hair black at the roots too? Can you see the hairs in the skin after you've shaved?
Sorry for the questions, I'm trying to find out if it would be suitable for me, as I have fair skin and medium-coloured hair, but the roots are fair.0 -
I really really want this and had no luck tracking one down until today and guess what, it went back up to £300 last night. So annoying! I'm not going to buy one now, not until the price comes down again as it would be too annoying.0

Yes, it is annoying that the price went up. I want to buy home IPL but can't decide between Boots smooth Skin and Remington I-light. The problem is I can't find any reviews of Remington one as it is new on the market I think. It is at £293 and seems to be much faster and efficient ,after 3-4 treatments you should be hair free for up to 12 weeks. Has any one tried it- does it work??? one of my concerns is using it on facial hair as it is not recomended but I noticed that some people from this forum used boots one and it was fine (despite the older model wasn't recomended on facial hair). I really don't know which one to go for....0

I was thinking the same re which one to go for but then one claims 3 months without hair and the other says permenant so I opted for the permenant.0

Which one is strongest? I am finding the boots one good for about 3 weeks then I have to go and use it all over again for another 12 weeks to be come hair free for another 3 weeks ... it's becoming an endless pain the !!!! cycle. I feel my little heart dip into my boots when I feel that stubble coming back through. As for people who say the hair is finer ... they must just be lucky ...0
