I have reall all this thread with interest as I am looking in getting one of this in the Christmas shopping evenings too.

How much time does it take to do one leg? as in the week I have no time left and I could do it only in week-ends? Will 2 hours for one leg be enough? that would be sunday morning sorted, or do you need many hours for such beg areea? as people over here seem to have treated only the armpit, chin, (smaller areas)

    Thanks

That's really helpful information cocktail_girl. I was originally thinking of getting this to do my legs, bikini line, underarms etc but after hearing what people have been saying regarding the "permanence" of the hair removal, maybe it would be better to just use it for 1 or 2 small areas?

If it only takes 10 minutes to do the bikini line, you could reasonably do that every fortnight or so to keep the hairs at bay and you wouldn't need to replace the head very often at all as it would last for ages.

Obviously this won't be a good strategy for everyone but for me, the bikini line is the most troublesome area as I get sore and itchy when I shave and I'm too much of a big jess to wax/epilate! Definitely something to think about...

Fair is the highest setting. Lower it to dark.
  • i am really fancing one of these, thank you so much for everyones comments as i was looking at this instore and was undecided but i am really considering it now...

i was paying £35 pound a shot at the salon for IPL treatments and i didnt notice any difference, what are your opinions on this? is it more or less likely to be as effective that the salon equivalent? from your own experience of course!

i was at the last boots xmas shopping night and got a voucher for the night this week that gives me 1750 points for £50 spend, do you think this would be for every £50 spend as the voucher doesnt say?

if so it would make it the best time to buy this i would think and would allow me to spend the points on pressies

Not sure if you were aware, (I wasnt) but the boots smooth skin cant be used on the face/upper lip etc.

Might be that you want it for other areas but I thought I would mention :o

Apparently it doesn't work on blonde, grey or white hair!

Boots are now saying it can be used on the face.

IPL doesn't work on blonde, red, grey or white hair in the salons either, it's also not suitable for dark skin.

I was very tempted to get this at last night's Christmas Shopping evening, as I saw they had them in my local store. Unfortunately I have had a few large outgoing recently so couldn't really justify it. Will have to put it on the list of things to get at next year's special evenings :)

I have a question though. My hair tends to be a medium-brown in the middle, but the roots are actually blond. Would it be suitable at all, or would I fall in the "doesn't work" category? I always get ingrown hairs from waxing or shaving my bikiniline :(
  • Well, I have been using this now for well beyond the 12 weekly sessions suggested by boots on my lower legs and bikini. Before using this I used to wax - but suffered from TERRIBLE ingrown hairs on my bikini line . In fact I still have some - I think maybe I have scarred the skin trying to get them out :o

On my legs the hair is growing back much slower and finer. However its not hair free, but possibly some hair free patches on the back of my legs. My bikini line is also growing back slower - and it fact I think I have got rid of some hairs completely :j

Previous to buying this I had two IPL treatments at my salon. They were really expensive and I have to say in the two sessions I didnt notice a difference. The salon laser felt the same (sension wize from the zap) as the boots system, therefore I think it is worth paying out for if you are thinking of having IPL treatments at a salon.

I will keep on at it - it is really time consuming tho hence I only do the lower half of my legs. I have no idea how long it will be take to be hair free - or even i this is possible with this machine for me. I would love to get to the point where I could shave and zap only once a month or less.
  • Hi everyone, I am a mixed race woman with light (mostly) to medium brown (in some places) skin. My mum is white and dad black, so probably I shouldn't be using this product but am desperate for a solution!

I could see from reading the forum that some asian ladies with light brown skin have used this with no ill effects and also last year I went to a salon and had IPL treatment on my face (sideburns, upper lip and chin) with no ill effects and it did reduce my hair a bit I thought I would give this a try since my hair has grown back nearly to the same amount as before.

I ordered the Boots Smooth Skin online on the afternoon of Thursday 26th November and it arrived on Monday 30th, really quick and with free delivery - excellent! Plus it was for the lower price of £249.99 with extra points...

I patch tested my face and 1 lower leg (on DARK - I dont think I should ever change this) on the Tuesday night with no adverse effects - no pain or redness. I know you are supposed to wait 48 hours but everthing seemed ok so I did a full treatment on my face last night. Mostly painless apart from the odd time when I had a bit of hyperpigmentation (darker patches of skin - although I did try to cover them with white eyeliner) or especially thick coarse hair. Afterwards in some places my skin felt quite hot so I put a cold compress on it - everything feels fine and back to normal today.

I just hope this machine will be able to reduce my hair to the same point or BETTER than the professional IPL (which was £250 for 6 treatments) and once gotten to that point I will be able to maintain it at that level by doing a full treatment maybe every three months? - rather than having to pay every year at a salon...here's hoping!!!

I'll update again if there are any worrying signs with my skin and also regarding my treatments and successes.
