It was me. I phoned Boots CS to query this and was told £50. If I remember, there was a bit in the instruction book about sending the unit handset bit back (address was given) for bulb replacement but needless to say I've lost mine. I think you can download another copy though...must go check.

    Edit: Found this....

What happens when the Boots Smooth Skin lamp runs out?

The Boots Smooth Skin lamp is pre-programmed with 10,000 shots of light. When the lamp is running out, a red light will flash on your console and it will eventually stop firing. A replacement handset will have to be purchased if this happens.

Is there a helpline if I need further advice?

Yes, the Boots Care Line staff are available on 0845 120 1511 to answer any queries regarding the Boots Smooth Skin. Calls may be recorded to help maintain our high standards of service.
    Monday to Friday: 8.30am-7.00pm
    Saturday and Sunday: 8.45am-5pm

So not sure now if they replace the bulb in your own handset or just send you a new one.
I phoned the Smooth Skin Care line this morning and quoted this thread because on a different forum someone had said £175 for replacement and I remembered you had said you had been told £50.
She swore blind it was £99 and I really pushed the point too.
It is a bit worrying when we are being told different things. She said you have to send the handset back and they replace the whole thing.

The replacement cost was an issue for me when deciding whether to buy or not. Bit fed up now if they've changed the goalposts already.

I wonder if they haven't sold this machine in the amounts they were expecting to, so have increased the replacement bulb cost to compensate?

How do we know that what I have been told is accurate though? Maybe your customer service rep was right and mine was wrong. That's why I'm not happy they aren't singing from the same hymn sheet. Don't get disheartened yet!
I'm going through other channels now to find out. I'm hoping to have that info on Monday (tomorrow).
If anyone else gets told something different (or the same) please post it.

I read some where it was the hand set that needs replacing not just the bulb .I am hoping by the time the handset wants replacing i wont be using it anymore .I find if you use a epilator you can see the results straight away. But of course it grows back.Because this is taking so long to see any difference its tedious . But if it means permanent it will be worth it in the long run

As I said above this is what I was told by the Smooth Skin customer service line. That you send the whole handset back and they replace it.

Ok the latest is this I have just heard back from someone instore who is manager of the electrical beauty section. This person knew that I and others had heard conflicting reports and so went straight to the horses mouth so to speak and headed higher up the feeding chain asking a few people who 'would' know.

According to this person Boots haven't decided yet what it will cost so Boots people quoting prices are telling porkies. Boots still haven't decided.
Then this person went straight to Cyden and they said that through them it would cost 175 for a replacement handset and 99 for a refurbished. (I wonder if that is to do with their planned launch of it independently of Boots) BUT there is no mechanism for consumers to bypass Boots and do this yet or possibly ever!

Boots could be done for false advertising, if people are buying it on the basis of being quoted a set price for handset replacement and are telling people different prices.
EDIT: Phoned general number and explained situation and asked to speak to a supervisor. They were pretty shocked we had been told different things. BUT the EB consultant said that they have recently decided that it will be definitely 99 pounds. I asked why my instore contact had been told there is no decision yet as late as this morning but they couldn't answer that.
I said can they not put it in black and white on the website. She said they'll pass it along.

I would take it further if I was you.

    Hi
Have any of you finished the 12 weeks using this? Did it get rid of all the hair?
I'm interested in buying one but i'll probably wait until summer is over and i've heard a bit more feedback.
Also if you have completed the 12 weeks, did the one handset last out or was a replacement needed.
Many thanks for any info in advance!

I tried to use it on my legs for the 2nd time today. The first time was ok, but I did half of one leg today and was finding it too sharp a pain to complete it. Maybe its cos im stressed at the moment. Also only finished my period 5 days ago.
