DD noticed really bad burn marks on her bedroom window frames (double glazing) and asked myself and oh if we had being smoking in her bedroom. I had a look and asked if she had being smoking in her bedroom even though she doesn't smoke. Obviously she threw a kevin paddy to that question and stomped off remarking she knew she'd get the blame.

I looked on the floor no burn marks on the carpet checked outside no marks there. So we were all confused. Then I noticed another burn mark had appeared and the other burn marks had gotten bigger. Still couldn't work out what causing it.

This morning after DD left for school went into her bedroom found her bedroom full of smoke (not set fire alarm off though) and all the burn marks smoking and a new burn mark smoking on the rubber seal round the window. Knew then it was nothing DD was doing etc. Stood looking trying to make sense of what causing it and noticed one the cats 'Quiche' snoring away on the bed, wasn't bothering her:rotfl: It struck me the No7 mirror was on the window sill with the magnifying side facing the window. So I think the sun has reflected off the mirror and the heat has caused the plastic to melt etc. So everyone be aware and don't make the same mistake we have.

Now can I claim off the insurance because I feel such a berk and I don't think for a minute they'd believe me and it is our fault:rolleyes:

    Quick question

    What happens if ??

I had placed an online order and got bonus points, hastely spent the points then remembered I had an item to return. I'm confused as to what they will do. Does anyone know ? Will my card go into the negative ? Will they refuse the refund ?

    Thanks
    Karina
You should be fine ;) they will take off whatever few points you have left on your card down to 0, then you start over, they don't seem to take them off retrospectively. hth

Its such a ridicolous scenario I'm sure they would believe you!!! :p I mean who would make something like that up!!:D

Worth remebering though. I never seem to get any sun in my room so I think I am safe. My DDs room though is south facing so I'll make sure she puts no mirrors on her windowsill.
now has her .com delivery but doesnt know where to put it :o

Blimey rubylou - bet that was a shock, glad you found out what it was while you were in the house!! My Dad and Bro are both firemen, my hubby thinks I am bonkers for all the precautions I take but this is a new one on me!! Could tell you some really freaky things but don't want to make you all paranoid:D I would contact the insurance company, it should come under accidental damage if you have it on your policy.

My hubby once left a bottle of sure roll on deodorant on the bathroom windowsill, the sun heated the bottle up and the rollerball flew out of it while he was shaving, hit a tile and cracked it. It went off like a gunshot and we both hit the deck - nearly wet ourselves laughing but it was a bit scary!!!

I saw the re-useable bags in our boots today - didn't buy one though as they had a printing error on and they were all smudged.

Oh Rubyloo, thankgoodness you noticed before any other damage was done.
You should be able to make a claim if you have accidental damage cover.
After all we all pay enough for these policies, so they ought to help us out when we need it.:)
Fancy it being a boots mirror too. Make sure your DD finds it a new home...away from the window.

Rubes a very similar thing happened to me but not with a boots mirror, I had small magnifying mirror and after I had done my eyebrows in the nice bright sun I put it down face up:o A bit later on I could smell a burning smell and the sun had shone on the mirror which had reflected onto the side of the setee and it had burnt a hole in it about the size of a 10p piece. Definately learnt my lesson from this:o ( Fortunately we were in, I would dread to think what would have happened if we had gone out) I never reported mine to the insurance due to it only being very minor damage but I do not think the insurance would disbelieve you .

Boots SA told me deffo mistake on No7 foundations they were still going through as £3.xx but HAD to override to correct prices ( of half price only), fortunately I got mine prior to my store being notified yesterday:p
This is a do-it-yourself test for paranoia: you know you've got it when you can't think of anything that's your fault.

Hi Sandra, there is a link to a new private chat thread on our Boots chat thread IYKWIM. It looked like some of the refugees may have moved on to there for the time being anyway.

I know Moyilla is still around as I have been in regular touch by PM with her lately, as she was concerned about what she had read on refugees. I was able to answer her questions for her. Hopefully she will be back :D

Hello Polls & Sandra (and everyone else),

White men never got me!!! Though I did feel like calling them :p I only got my "mega" shop done today as I had a bit of a drama with DS3 :o

He was playing hide 'n' seek with DD2 and each were on either side of the bedroom door. They were then playing peek 'a' boo through the gap of the door. DD2 did not know DS3 had put his fingers through the gap and yes... she closed the door (well tried to) on his fingers.

I ran up the stairs - DS3's screams were blood curdling.......... I got met with his middle finger's tip missing and blood everywhere. DD2 was hysterical. I was _pale_ _pale_ _pale_ Found the tip and put it in some frozen peas (wrapped his hand a in towel and more peas) Scooped him up and rushed to A&E with him and sat for 5 hrs before he could be "treated" properly.

He is home now and is fine, quiet but fine, I have to say everyone I am shocked, I feel very guilty for it, he is only 5  Thank God they saved it, thank God for peas!!!!

Rubylou - the exact same thing happened in this house too!!!!!

The trim on my DD's window frame had a massive brown mark on it - and when my OH went to wipe it clean, he realised that it was burnt!

He realised what had happened - and now we are careful where we leave our mirrors! (I leave mine on the floor!)

Just to let you know - we asked the people who had fitted our windows to replace the damaged bit - and they did it free of charge!;)
