Hi Martin....Reading these enthusiastic posts, has made me do a re-think and have joined the local group, and the immediate neighbouring county. Gave quite a bit of stuff away, received a brand new curtain pole, and just answered a post for a computer bit.
  • I have been with our local freecycle for a while now after hearing about it from my sis in law. For those of you who do not want tons of emails go for the daily digest option and each day you will only receive one email listing all posts from the previous day. One thing I have found is thought check that people are in the UK . Someone wanted cookery books on our freecycle so I offered them to her to find that she was in New Zealand.
:A If I could think of a decent signature I would use one :A

    Hi,
i joined my local group because my monitor broke and i needed a new one and i got 3 offers! I must say, its a great site! I have a dily digest email setup and it condenses all the posts into one email. Might get rid of my old computer on there...

i have passed on pushchairs & other things that i could probably sell if i could be bothered but don't mind as have had a fantastic set of drawers for baby's room & pooh bear play mat (seen reduced to £25 in mothercare) that is fine now cleaned (tigger no longer plays tune but he did b4 his bath so is my fault!) they will be freecycled again when grown out of!
Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!

I posted a wanted message a few weeks ago for a sofa or sofa bed for my new place and someone emailed me a few days later offering me one... Picked it up on Sunday and it's in really good condition and from habitat! Quite comfy to sleep on too... saved myself a fortune! :D

Ok you lot, now heres a Freebie with a difference.

Your lounge suite is getting tatty and old looking and is out of date.

You'de love a new one but cant justify paying a few grand.

    O.K. No problem.

Do as I have just done and you will be amazed at what is offered to you.

When people purchase a new suite some companies won't take the old one away, nowadays so that person has then got a suite to get rid of, or they hold onto it hoping that someone will buy it and no-one does.

Now, Place an advert in your local (Use fax if it's a premium number) for a 2+3 seater or whatever you desire (I put preferably leather cos they can be cleaned easier than cloth and generally look more expensive IMHO) and you will have a couple of dozen peeps trying to sell you theirs. Tell them, no thanks but if they are stuck with it you will gladly take it off their hands (As a favour). Tell them to bear in mind that you will have to hire a van for the day (unless you have one available, in which case fib  ).

I actually had three people telling me that I could have the suite if I could collect and two of those were leather and neither more than 4 years old.

Consequently I have just picked up a three year old, cream leather 3 peice and it now sits in my lounge. Others will have just paid 3-4k for something similar.

Right now I could also put someone in touch with a TWO year old 2+3 Str in cream fabric as the owner completes on the sale of the house next Monday and wants rid. It'll go to the local landfill if not placed (It's in the SS area of Essex BTW.)

I have already passed details of another 2+3 in leather to another MSE'er and they will pick that up on Saturday. (If they wants to divulge their details and report on the condition of it then I'll leave that up to them).

I have also done the same with a kitchen (3 times - different properties)as these are also bulky and often don't sell.

Think I'll try it with a car next.

I'm sure that some of you will try it so come back here and tell us of your finds. Just think about how cluttered the ladfill sites are becoming and know that you are doing it for the environment. (Not quite true cos you'll have to dump yours)

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
  • I'm a regular freecycler. It's been especially useful both for donating and receiving items during house moves/renovation and clearing houses post bereavement.

It's amazing what turns up on there - from 5' high magician's cat houses to cars to chimney pots. Lots of local charities in my area use it to get raffle prizes etc also.

may sound stupid but how would you ask for a full kitchen?

It ain't wise to give out your email address, PM (private is safer)
So maybe send a private message and edit your post.
