My local news featured the local group recently & a surge in membership followed.I must admit on a personal level i am becoming slightly disillusioned at the surge in "wanteds" for laptops-pc,s-ps2,s-etc.Twice recently i have responded to a "wanted" request offering something,on both occasions i never received any reply-thanks but no thanks would have been nice after all manners & courtesy cost nothing.0

I think there is a security issue too.
Just don't want people calling.
I would sooner buy, eversocheap, at the Council Recycling Centre or the local bric-abrac auction.0 -
Hiya
I try to stress on my list that people are polite. I always say please and thank you though admittedly others do not! Security is not too much of a problem really. No more than putting an ad in the paper anyway. I never give personal details on the forum and as I approve messages before they are seen by other members I always delete any personal info others give. Once people respond to an offer security is thier own responsibility. I personally do not give my private email addy out, I don't give my address unless I have to - I try to swap items in a neutral place. I always make sure there is someone in the house with me if anyone comes to collect and I never go to collect alone. I avoid giving my phone number and prefer to talk via email. I am amazed how little others think about thier security though. They will put all sorts on a public forum: address, phone number, when they will be in, who will be there with them (or not!), personal details and any number of other stupid things! Thankfully as my forum is moderated I can sift through the messages for this kind of thing.
Security is very important but I would hate to worry about everyone I meet. People are so suspicious of one another these days aren't they? I try to believe that people are generally good and trustworthy and that the tiny minority are somewhat less so...

I discovered freecycle about a week ago..... posted a message asking for something and have had 4 responses so far... I didnt think I would get any offers as what I want can be expensive but people just want to get rid without any hassle.
Some people are very nice :beer:2012 wins approx £11,000 including 5k to spend on a holiday :j0 -

www.freecycle.org is a web site that has been set up to try and stop us throwing so much "good stuff" into landfill sites. I say good stuff because what you have no further use for may well have many uses for other people.
The idea is that you go to the website, locate your own area, and there are many groups in the UK. You apply to join your local group, all are yahoo groups I believe.
You can the advertise anything you wish, so long as it's legal, full TOS are sent to you.
So how is this money saving?
1. You don't have to pay to advertise.
2. You don't have to spend money on petrol to go to the tip.
3. The potential new user collects the goods/items from you.
4. Lots of items are advertised which you may get hold of for free.
The major stipulations are that what you are offering is legal, and you are giving it away for free.
A great idea in my book, but not for those who like trying to make money via sites like Ebay.

But to join locally I have to have a yahoo username and I hate yahooIWasLookingBackToSeeIfSheWasLookinBackToSeeIfIWasLookinBackAtHer.....0 -

Hi Sam,the goods still have to be exchanged.
iFreecycle is ideal for people just setting up, but in my case would sooner dump my stuff at the Council Depot and buy from Freecycle (for a nominal price)whatever is offered.
Otherwise it becomes a scam, with freebies being sold in auction or Ebay or a boot sale.0
