  • Yep - good site indeed. Got rid of a monitor and some other bits, and also acquired a nice enough pine wardrobe - already flatpacked as well, with all fittings. :)

Definitely a nice easy way to get rid of unwanted items - A good cause and saves money in having ot take stuff down the tip. (and I guess stops flytipping a bit too, eh?)
    Money saving:
Buy a Skoda. Laugh at the VWs who paid several grand more
Its a diesel. 50mpg - laugh at all the petrols
Its a tuned 260bhp diesel - laugh at them in the rearview mirror as they vanish

  • Excellent site thanks

I have been a member for about a year now and it's great for getting rid of your 'too good to throw away' stuff and getting stuff you need. Great for the environment as reduces waste.

Apologies to everyone if this has been posted before. (I did do a search on it and couldn't find anything...)

Whilst reposting or re-visiting something that hasn't been covered for a while is great for new members and a reminder for those who have perhaps forgot, I hate to say re "(I did do a search on it and couldn't find anything...) but you obviously didn't try very hard.

Typing "freecycle" into the MSE search facility finds 108 threads and of those I've looked at (quite a substantial quantity) ALL of them mention exactly the freecycle.org you are referring to.

Incidentally (I've been a Freecycle member for about 6 months) whilst it is possible to pick up some good items, don't get too over excited about it, unless you want to DISPOSE of things that is.
I've offered to collect several items that I could find a use for. All of them offered as working or requiring minor repairs or similar, only to find I've wasted a gallon of petrol collecting a total pile of junk which, having taken home and examined, I put back in the car and taken straight to the tip.

So be careful. some people will just use you to take away things that the dustbin men WON'T !!!!!!

I think this is a good scheme. I am tempted to run my own for the community. Has anyone run a group in there area

  • I use it to 'dispose' of the kids toys that are still in good nick but are too bulky to keep lying around, usually still in their boxes as i hate treading on little men - or pieces of stuff.

Like Happy St train sets and parking garages. Means I can clear the house and have it tidy for a few months before the new influx at Xmas, and so far everyone has liked what I've got. Never claimed anything yet though I have got a want out for an adult tricycle - LOL - can't afford a new one.

I've merged all the threads discussing Freecycle on the Freebies board together, so that people can look at all the discussions.

I joined my local group. Just a tip, set your profile to a daily email if possible, otherwise you end up getting loads of random emails about other people's giveaways! ;)
