Thanks, what a great idea. I signed up with Edinburgh group a week ago and am amazed at what people are giving away - computers, tv's and dvd players in perfect working order + much more. So much better to see stuff going to a good home where it will be appreciated (perhaps by someone who would not have been able to afford to buy it) rather than being dumped into a landfill.

Me too, I have recommended Freecycle to someone on here as twice I have seen cookers on the Edinburgh one at only five years old.
Hope you have looked at the thread in the Scotland board and maybe think about joining us in September?

I highly reommend the freecycle site. I'm in the Norwich one, and although have not found many things I've wanted for myself, I have managed to off load loads of stuff that I wanted to dump, but was too big for my car.0

I am active member of Sheffield freecycle. Just gave away an ikea single bed and mattress today. it's surplus to our requirements, a bit too tatty to sell, but still sturdy and usable, and has gone to nice people. Turns out we knew each other, she was in adult ed class I taught years ago !
After we move house - hopefully in July - we are going to freecycle our packing materials, to someone local who's house sale is bit behind ours.
We've received a bean bag ( nice Xmas pressent for youngest son:j) and hamster cardboard castle.
freecycle is not only place for freebies - see if there's a local forum in your area.
We also got female rat, in wonderful cage + lots of kit from Sheffield Forum for free, lady ratty is now happily rehomed with us

Hi
I joined the Glasgow one about a month ago and they do ask that you make an offer of something before you put a wanted ad in.
I offered up my t-mobile sims that I have no need for and managed to make 2 people very happy. One of them even sent me an excellent cd in return without being asked.
Great Idea. Its better to be late in this life than early in the next one.

Apologies to everyone if this has been posted before. (I did do a search on it and couldn't find anything...)
I've come across something called freecycle (it's a Yahoo group) which is where people offer things they don't need anymore for free or people ask for things they need.) there is no money involved as far as I can see and it's run on a local basis
there is a general website on it at:
http//freecycle.org
don't know much about it as I've just found it myself...
Sounds interesting tho......0 -

yes this is a good site I've been a member for a while and passed on my old car still running and all ok just tired. You often see tv's, computer desks, computers and garden stuff often old but works ok - also good for passing on stuff which you have replaced with new but don't want to throw out.
go on join up no spam just view the site or you can register for an email a day with the new offers0
