I think it is great to hear that these website are helping charities.0

I'm on the Manchester freecycle group.
I've given away a few items so far. We've got a garage full of stuff that needs to go but it would take too long to list. I've gratefully received an exercise bike although it hurts my bum as the seat is too hard! I'm going to fix it by making a foam seat.
I like the concept but would like to see an independent website with a better database and messageboard.

Hi
Free2collect is an independant website, but it does'nt have a message board. Maybe you could suggest this to them?0 -
I love free cycle, I am a member of 4 different groups in a 40 mile radius of home,
So far I have offered a fish tank
20 baby guppies
a crib
loads of my kids old toys and clothes
loads more, but can't think what
I have received a sewing machine :j
And have just put a wanted add for a metal garage, which I doubt I will get, but there is always hope.
The groups around here are really good and loads of great stuff is offered, I think it's a good job I don't drive otherwise, I would have loads :rotfl:

I have been an active member of freecyce for quite a few months now but have felt over the past 6-weeks or so that since the group has got bigger we are getting more and more wanted ad's for ridiculous things, like cars, trailers etc etc. Also, it seems that no matter what I advertise at the moment I am getting the same people time and again demanding things, and quite random things too!!! I sniff a dealer..... This past 2 weekends I have had a mass clearout of my loft and shed and have advertised a hell of a lot of stuff and have been let down time and time again by the same people not turning up for things, sending nasty emails stating that they are being ignored by me, although I reply to each and every person. After threatening to put the items in the bin over the weekend I have been inundated with emails from people saying they promise to come and collect and that they are "desperate" for things , then when I say ok, they are yours, when can you come, they never reply....it is so maddening when you are giving away things that would cost a lot of money to buy and people just dont other to get back in touch .
One good thing to come out of the weekend tho, I had a man come for a few things that had had a few things off me before and he runs a church group and he said I was the giveaway queen and that the church have really appreciated everything they have received off me!!! That sort of makes up for all the other losers!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the rant tho.....0 -
I'm a member of our Manchester one & so far I've got rid of two bin bags full of outgrown baby clothes, one of toys & one of baby books
In return I have collected a brilliant tandem buggy which my boys absolutely love which was like new
Also got a lovely desk for my son's room - I advertised that I was looking for one as I had no luck finding the type I wanted new and a nice lady had the perfect one
So every experience I have had has been excellent and I think it is a great site0 -
HI
Have you tried https://www.free2collect.co.uk same sort of website but on a much smaller scale. You don't have to register, all available items are veiwed through the website so you don't get masses of emails.brummiebird wrote:I have been an active member of freecyce for quite a few months now but have felt over the past 6-weeks or so that since the group has got bigger we are getting more and more wanted ad's for ridiculous things, like cars, trailers etc etc. Also, it seems that no matter what I advertise at the moment I am getting the same people time and again demanding things, and quite random things too!!! Its been interesting reading these posts. I have always suspected that these sites would be open to abuse by greedy people, hence I have been hesitant to sign up with them. Its great in theory if everyone enters into the spirit of the thing, but I can't stand people's generosity being abused. There are enough 'takers' in this world without giving them any more encouragement. Sorry to be cynical!Whats the use of happiness? It can't buy you money. Henry Youngman0
