Minerva69 wrote:I have only ever given away things on Freecycle as I don't have a car so couldn't collect stuff from other people. Do you think it would be appropriate to ask if people could deliver if I paid their petrol money?
I don't have a car & I have asked if people to deliver, some will if you offer petrol money others politely say no. Even though I have offered petrol money I have not had one person take it yet.2023 wins - Rice Krispies, Avene Micellar Gel, Barbie Toy, £20 Apple Gift Card, KFC 6 piece bargain bucket, Chloe Nomade perfume, Barbie Toy (second one), Sanctuary Spa Sleep Balm, E45 Moisturising Lotion, Trolls Hamper, 12 Tonie Characters, Sure deodorant, Good Home Utensil holder, £5 Costa Gift Card, Neutrogena Micellar Jelly, Soap & Glory Mascara, Persil capsules,0 -
Peakma wrote:There was a disscussion on the Sheffield forum the other day, regarding how quickly stuff goes thats worth anything. It seems a shame to be just passing it on the to the greedy rather than the needy. It seems that regular feecyclers tend to wait for several replies, and give to the most polite and genuine replies. This seems like a good idea.Or just pick one at random. Is this how it's done in other groups?
I'm with the Glasgow group.
When I've regave I tend to wait for a few replies before deciding on who to give stuff too. I also choose to disperse it amongst as many people as is practicable thus reducing the car-booters likelyiood of getting it. Equally I favour people who I know have regave in the past.
Managed to get rid of a bed a few weeks back.
What I tend to do is put up things that either the charity shops won't take or I need out of the way p.d.q.
Luckily I haven't had anyone not keep to their appointment to pick stuff up but have seen frequent posts about people not bothering to collect.0 -
Leicestershire operates on a first-come-first-served basis. I have only ever got one thing i asked for, but then i only asked for 2 things so far!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

That sounds rather prescriptive. Surely it should up to the individual Freecycler how he/she gives anything away?0_o0 -

The Huddersfield area seems to work well. My daughter has just moved into her first home and has received an ironing board, Vaccuum and some drawers. My offers have varied greatly from knitting machines and computer parts to books. its a great site.0

Depends on whether a consensus or anarchy is your ideal modus operandi. (heck should have been a journalist):)

I check free cycle everyday and it is saving me a fortune.
This week i have got A George Foreman Grill, Pasta and rice cooker, new in box footspa, TV, computer keyboard and cd rom drive, moses basket, loads of baby goods, curtains, hifi, and his evening my husband has gone to collect a bin bag full of under 1's toys and baby milk still sealed.
Not bad seen as i only joined last week these things have come in very useful.
I only ask for things i know will get used and are wanted though.0
