Seems a good idea to me Camp Freddy.

How much can you make per week by doing it sensibly?
Maybe 2 reviews per day..
It depends on how much time you put into it. If you write good quality reviews people will make an effort to find your reviews and read them.
Also, if you spend a lot of time reading other people's reviews, they in turn are far more likely to want to read yours.
I only post about 4 reviews a week and usually manage to get at least 100 reads on each review (sometimes more - I've had a few have more than 150 reads - I suppose it depends on the subject) so that earns me £2 per review. Crowns are hard to guess on - I try to write all my reviews in the hope of getting one, but don't take them for granted. I probably average one every couple of weeks so that's an extra £1.50.
If you spend the time on both your reviews and reading and rating (and I mean reading - not clicking Very Useful without bothering) you can make £8 to £10 per week, which I think is a more rewarding way to do it than churning several reviews per day for the intial 50p.
Also, choose your subjects wisely - I am feeling a little jaded on food reviews at the moment - there isn't a thing I couldn't tell you about Muller Light yoghurt and the new flavoured crisps Walkers currently have on the market...:p0 -
I think there are very few useful reviews of food. I think I'm gonig to start rating down for descriptions of packaging and stories about going to the supermarket to buy them...with a few exceptions. Like if someone is saying they were in the supermarket and the packaging was so attractive that it made them buy it that might actually be quite useful.0

Yup, that's exactly what I meant.
Assuming the Baron doesn't object to me creating work for him!
Sorry, B.0 -

Not a problem for me, anything you want putting in people just let me know.0 -

Question: Do you think it's acceptable to ask people for pointers on how to improve your reviews if they don't rate you as very useful?
I always do this and usually get back a positive response and am then able to improve reviews...and often it's a good way to make new friends on teh site. Today I did the same and got a really hostile reply...I think I was polite in the way I worded the request. Plus it seems like it was a revenge rate, I didn't think it was at first but the response I got made it sound like he had only rated me as such because of how I rated him.
So the question is, is it okay to ask other members for pointers on improving reviews?0 -

Personally I don't take offence at being asked why I rated down to useful and explaining my rate, but not everyone will feel the same.
You also have to expect lower ratings - if the majority of people find my ratings VU or U I am happy - I don't feel the need to ask why they did so.
I don't think its worth getting worked up over a Useful rating - I have a fair few I know were revenge ratings but Dooyoo rightly don't consider Useful to be a bad rating so they don't investigate.
Keep on working to appealing to the majority and accept you can't please everybody all of the time.0 -
For me it's not a case of being worked up over a useful rating. I'm happy to have a mixture because the fact that I nearly always get very useful ratings to me suggests that people aren't reading my reviews and it also means that they never improve. If everyone rates everything very useful how will I ever be able to find out what I can do to improve?Like last week someone rated one of my reviews as useful and I messaged her to see what I could do to improve and she gave me some really good suggestions. I decided against editing in the end because the review got crowned but next time I write a review of a city I'm going to be sure to recommend more hotels from a range of budgets, if I can.I guess I just see it as a positive thing to ask for feedback on reviews, people do it to me all the time and unless they're really rude (which they often are) I have no problem making suggestions or explaining why I didn't feel that I could rate them higher.Maybe I'm being overly sensitive and getting offended over nothing (offended at the reply I was given rather than the rating).0

I would also always respond to a request about improving opinions (and in fact say so on my profile). Sometimes the requests can sound a little "threatening" or hostile (not for one moment suggesting that this is the case here - clearly I don't know!) and whilst I generally respond to these I find it grates more!
I've had peeps accuse me of revenge rating with a U, of not reading the opinion, of revenge rating on behalf of someone else and all sorts!
Some folks are very nice in their requests and helping these people makes my role as a guide worthwhile!
It's fair to say, though, that some members don't like giving feedback... I guess you just have to accept that.
My advice: make sure you ask nicely and without and accusatory tone and then take it on the chin if there's no response!0
