Its been suggested that the WFA might be increased by £50 in Wednesdays Budget, funded by a windfall tax on suppliers.

It has been suggested that this will be for over 70s. We will have to wait for tomorrow's Budget announcement.

The Chancellor has just announced that the WFA will rise to £250 for those aged over 60 and to £350 for those over 80.
These changes will take place this year.

Sorry (me being too hasty)- that should read £400 for the over 80s.

And, unfortunately, this is a one off for this year only!

I've only just noticed that my library (Kensington and Chelsea) doesn't charge at all for anything borrowed by over 60s. Unlike another poster on a different thread, I'm deeply fed up that I could have not been paying for four years had someone drawn my attention to this. Oh well, at least things will be free for me from now on (except for fines)

islandman - yes, I'm afraid so. I cautioned yesterday on another thread because people were getting excited about it. This year only - or, to be more precise, NEXT winter.
  • Yes, a £50 increase for one year only. This also means a £50 DEcrease the following year.

That's one way of looking at it. On the other hand Roundhead Brown might bribe us with £100 like he ded a few years ago when an election was in the offing.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Where do I find a list of retail outlets that give discounts for those who are 60 and over?
