You don't have to claim your pension at 60 - you can defer it and get extra pension when you do claim or a lump sum.

I was advised by an accountant to `take the money and run`. I can't quite remember one of the points, no doubt someone here will know. It's something like this, if I were to die before by husband (he is not claiming his pension yet) some of the money would die with me so to speak.

I am putting the extra aside ready for when I do actually retire, so interest will be earnt.

that used to be the case but it really isn't so clear cut now. you have to think of your tax position and also the % increase when you draw the pension as against the interest rate you would have received. I calculated it would be worth my while giving it up for 2.5 years and haven't regretted it - just got to live long enough to break even..........

Even if you only get a few pennies Pension Credit this is worth claiming because recieving Pension Credit is the gateway into other benefits, such as Council Tax discounts

I get 10p a week pension credit via a cheque for £1.30 every 13 weeks, because I get this I do not have to pay any council tax a saving of almost £900.00 per year.So it's well worth applying for it.

REV 5.1 if you mean you can't get the 25% rebate on your council tax because you have too much money saved, I am almost sure Single Person Occupancy rebate is not means-tested so you could have a million in the bank and still get it...

I like you kite by the way :T

    tanith,mmmm, you may be right.
I have just downloaded the form regarding Single Person Occupancy from Wakefield Council, and there is no mention of earnings or savings.
What ill do is go to the council offices and make sure, and report back midweek with the good or bad news.
