Had my brother ring me when he saw my name in the paper. Instead of offering support he asked why "scum like me run up debts and then take the easy way out?" He then proceeded to tell every member of family he could. Some people have no idea what we have all had to go through to become BR. The phone calls, the letters, the OR, losing posessions, all of it.

Needless to say what goes around comes around. Today he was caught speeding and when police pulled him he had no MOT. Maybe there is justice out there ;)
Inspired by the comment in Lisa's (mummy to Archie plus Bump) signature and attributed to native American Indians:
Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes.
It is so true and a lesson for your arrogant brother. And any other naysayers out there.

And if he had hit someone in a un roadworthy vehicle? Nice brother you got there! Some people do my head in. Some people are up to their neck in it and brush it aside or put it on the shelf. There are millions of them out there. Your brother may even be one of them:p

The lack of MOT I believe is a criminal offence whereas your BR is just a civil matter.

Quite true. He will go to court and get a fine for the MOT offence and depending on speed and previous points, 3 to 6 points and a £60 fine or more , depending on circumstance. He may find out his insurance is void and they may do him for that aswell.;)

Only the most serious of traffic offenses are criminal. IIRC drink driving is one. No MOT is a non endorsable statutory offense. So you don't get points. I think the idea is that you get 3 points for every safety related fault they find if they bother to inspect it. They rarely do in a simple stop for documents. Because you rarely tell them at the time that you have no MOT, obviously thumbs-up.gif

Insurance is invalid (usually) because the insurance company can rightly argue that the car shouldn't have been on the road in the first place.

P.S. Faulty brakelights, tyres, steering, windscreenwipers and an empty washer bottle are somethings that can get you 3 points. All safety related...

You brother is probably in some fairly serious trouble if it was his fault Ooglydoggly...
  • Did they tow the car away like they do on the police camera shows?

Or is that for TV only?

The police can now check quite easily if there is no current MOT on the vehicle, this is an area they are cracking down on. Records will show on a stop if the vehicle is MOT'D, the use of ANPR can Identify within seconds the history of the vehicle and it's current status, all the above mentioned will incur 3 points apart from the MOT which will be a fine. Thanks Lensman on this clarification. Alot of drivers don't know this.

No unfortunately he wasn't towed away in shame  Just asked to get MOT done and produce documents. Thank you for all the support on here. Most important when your own family don't want to know!

I like the Dr Seuss Quote best:

"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.” :D
